Can I access the Mormon Library?

Can I access the Mormon Library?

The Mormons (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) now make their information available to the public online as well as in thousands of family history centers worldwide. Not everything found in a family history center can be accessed online and not everything online can be used in a family history center. Serious researchers will want to use both sources.

The online site is free and can be accessed at at any time. It is a very popular site and you may find it difficult to access during prime times, but keep trying at different times of the day if you can not get in. One of the most popular features of the FamilySearch website is the 1880 Federal Census, which also has a wonderful search feature, enabling many to find ancestors in the census that they had been previously unable to locate.

Family history centers are open free to the public and are usually located inside church buildings. They are well worth the time to visit. Location of one near you can be found on the website or by checking the white pages of your phone book and calling a church.

We do recommend caution when using some of the computer data files, like the Ancestor File and IGI. We recommend that you just use them as guide lines, and not as gospel truth. Many of these are simply other people's data that has been submitted to them and as such, it is only as good as the person who submitted it. There can be many conflicts in the data, but it is still very helpful because it can provide vital clues to the real proof you are seeking.
