Lesson 14: Picking Out Your Genealogy Software
By now you probably have family sheets, notes and other research materials strewn all over your house. The clutter is starting to overwhelm your efforts and your spouse is beginning to ask "Didn't we have three kids?" Maybe, just maybe.....it's time to think about picking up a good genealogy program. There are dozens of excellent genealogy programs out there on the open market. The hard part is picking out the one that is perfect for you. What I would suggest is you check out some of the sites on the Internet that compare the various programs. A couple of the sites that I recommend are:
- http://www.whollygenes.com/compare.pdf
I would also suggest you download some of the FREE sample programs to get an idea of what you would like your program to do. Some of the Free Download sites are:
- Ancestry Family Tree (http://www.ancestry.com/aftexec/)
- Personal Ancestry File (www.familysearch.org); then go to their order/download products section
- Legacy (http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/)
- GenoPro (http://www.genopro.com/)
There may be other FREE downloads out there, try going to http://www.yahoo.com and search for Free Genealogy Programs.
