Beginning Genealogy Lessons
So you want to trace your family tree, but you don't have a clue where to begin. First, let me tell you that we were all beginners once and had to ask the same questions that are circulating through your mind. Genealogy can be a great hobby, but if you want to do it right, there are certain things you need to do.
I hope with these lessons to help you learn the basic steps involved in tracing your family tree and help you to avoid some of the mistakes that I have made over the years.
The first section of lessons will deal with getting started, making that first courthouse visit and dealing with the dead. You don't have to follow the steps in the exact order I have laid out here, but if you do, I think you will find they follow a logical progression for doing your research. The following lessons are in the first section:
- Lesson 1: Getting Started
- Lesson 2: Talking to Your Kin
- Lesson 3: Charting Your Courthouse Trip
- Lesson 4: Marriage Licenses
- Lesson 5: Land Records
- Lesson 6: Wills
- Lesson 7: Probates
- Lesson 8: Birth, Death and other Miscellaneous Stuff at the Courthouse
- Lesson 9: Walking the Cemeteries
- Lesson 10: Obituaries
- Ready for more? Unk's 2nd Series is on the way
