Please know my thoughts are with you during this painful time. 1 CONT We always admired your Mom for getting you Dad to visit his Mom so 1 CONC often and for giving our dear cousin Jeff such a good life and family. 1 CONT 1 CONT With Love, 1 CONT Your Cousin, 1 CONT 1 CONT Ruth 1 CONT 1 CONT Letter accompanying the card: 1 CONT 1 CONT What I recall about your grandfather Ferdinand: 1 CONT About his living at Copita, (pronounced Ko-pea'ta), Brooks County, 1 CONC Texas. Brooks County is in brush country about 200 miles SSE of San 1 CONC Antonio--still a sparsely populated area. For many years the main 1 CONC industry was dairy farming-- as it is today with a large creamery at 1 CONC Falfurrias, the county seat. Also, now there is oil and ranching so 1 CONC perhaps you could contact the county seat records if you want to narrow 1 CONC down dates. 1 CONT Besides my recall of Ferdinand, I talked with Elizabeth "ditta" who 1 CONC is my age and her oldest brother 2 or 3 years older -- Johnny. 1 CONT These are the facts as we recall, but we don't know dates: 1 CONT Ferdinand lived and worked in the community of Copita (this name 1 CONC doesn't show up on maps -- so it probably part of Falfurrias). 1 CONT He took his share of the estate to buy a farm. Something happened 1 CONC anad he lost the money-- if it was because of a bad deal or inability to 1 CONC keep up payments or whatever. We don't recall hearing or maybe not 1 CONC understanding what happened. 1 CONT It seems tat his losing the money is what caused his problems. 1 CONT As to dates--since his mother died in 1920, I presume he got his 1 CONC share after the estate was settled--to hazard a guess perhaps between 1 CONC 1924-28 because Fred was too young to be separated from his mother and 1 CONC Jeff probably was about 6 years old at least. 1 CONT Now, as to his problems in light of today's understanding-- words 1 CONC that come to mind are despair, low self-esteem, and depression. As to his 1 CONC drinking, "Ditta' recalls him drinking beer during a time he was staying 1 CONC in a garage apartment. at his sister Emily's house. We both recall also 1 CONC that he had a deep cough. My understanding was that he died of pneumonia. 1 CONT Nellie Ray is the one who can shed more light on his problems since 1 CONC the Collins family took Cora under their wing then and for many years 1 CONC after. Nellie is in a nursing home -- her choice. What her state of being 1 CONC is, I do not know. I haven't talked to her in some time, but am trying to 1 CONC make it a point to see her soon. 1 CONT Cousin Ruth 1 CONT 1 CONT 0 @I121@ INDI 1 NAME Unknown /Morrison/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F005@ 0 @I122@ INDI 1 NAME Mary /Stahl/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F047@ 0 @I123@ INDI 1 NAME John /Wilson/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F047@ 0 @I124@ INDI 1 NAME Albert /Wilson/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F047@ 0 @I125@ INDI 1 NAME Ferdinand /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F007@ 1 FAMC @F030@ 0 @I126@ INDI 1 NAME Katherine /Hornet/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 PLAC Camden, N.J. 1 FAMS @F007@ 0 @I127@ INDI 1 NAME Julia /Neutze/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I128@ INDI 1 NAME Albert /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I129@ INDI 1 NAME John /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I130@ INDI 1 NAME Jacob /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F011@ 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I131@ INDI 1 NAME Valentine /Obert/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F001@ 0 @I132@ INDI 1 NAME Caroline /Neutze/ 1 SEX F 1 DEAT 2 PLAC Camden, N.J. 1 FAMS @F009@ 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I133@ INDI 1 NAME William /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I134@ INDI 1 NAME Wilhelmina /Neutze/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I135@ INDI 1 NAME Ferdinand /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I136@ INDI 1 NAME John Henry /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F008@ 1 FAMC @F007@ 0 @I137@ INDI 1 NAME Katherine Neutze /Jones/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMS @F027@ 1 FAMC @F009@ 0 @I138@ INDI 1 NAME Albert /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F011@ 0 @I139@ INDI 1 NAME George /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F046@ 1 FAMC @F011@ 0 @I140@ INDI 1 NAME Mary /Obert/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F001@ 0 @I141@ INDI 1 NAME William /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F008@ 0 @I142@ INDI 1 NAME George /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F008@ 0 @I143@ INDI 1 NAME Frank /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F012@ 1 FAMC @F008@ 0 @I144@ INDI 1 NAME Caroline /Neutze/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F008@ 0 @I145@ INDI 1 NAME Harry /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F008@ 0 @I146@ INDI 1 NAME Frank /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMC @F012@ 0 @I147@ INDI 1 NAME Helene Neutze /Alles/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMS @F013@ 1 FAMC @F012@ 0 @I148@ INDI 1 NAME Nancy /Neutze/ 1 SEX F 1 FAMC @F013@ 0 @I149@ INDI 1 NAME Thomas /Alles/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F013@ 0 @I150@ INDI 1 NAME Karl Phillip /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 PLAC Cologne 1 DEAT 2 PLAC when child 16 yrs 1 FAMS @F014@ 1 FAMC @F043@ 0 @I151@ INDI 1 NAME John /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 27 Jul 1828 2 PLAC Medirmessen Kurhessen Germany(Kassel) 1 DEAT 2 DATE 2 Jan 1905 2 PLAC Leon springs, Texas (BEXAR COUNTY) 1 CHR 2 DATE 28 Apr 1852 2 PLAC Arrived in New York City 1 BURI 2 PLAC from BREMEN, Germany 1 BAPM 2 PLAC Age 28 Tailor 1 CONF 2 PLAC Arrived with Anna Neutze Age 32 1 FCOM 2 PLAC child wilme 2 1 OCCU henry .09 HS000 1 INFO Ship was LOUIS 1 FAMS @F033@ 1 FAMS @F020@ 1 FAMC @F030@ 0 @I152@ INDI 1 NAME John Otto /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 PLAC Niche, N.D. 1 FAMS @F015@ 1 FAMC @F014@ 0 @I153@ INDI 1 NAME Raymond /Neutze/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F029@ 1 FAMC @F015@ 1 NOTE @NI153@ 0 @NI153@ NOTE 1 CONC Dear Eva, 1 CONT 1 CONT I have so much to say I don not know how to start. 1 CONT this will be disjointed and not in order. but I really know but little. 1 CONT 1 CONT My father was born in 1880 in Niche, N.D.
