1 CONT The following excerpt is from the History of Dekalb County by Bowen:
1 CONT "Lewis and Elizabeth (Luttman) Shaffer, both of whom were natives of
1 CONT Pennsylvania. They were reared and educated in the old Keystone state
1 CONT and were married, after which event they came to Stark County, Ohio,
1 CONT whence, after a residence of about ten years, they came to Dekalb
1 CONT county, settling in Richland township on April 1, 1864. Here they spent
1 CONT balance of their lives. Lewis Shaffer engaged in blacksmithing, in which
1 CONT he was very successful."
1 CONT Lewis, Elizabeth, & Ella Shaffers' graves are located on the the south

1 CONT Ruffner, and possibly Moyer on my mother's side.  And if Buterbaugh is a
1 CONT variant of Bartlebaugh they are also on collateral my mothers side.  The
1 CONT enclosed family group and pedigree sheets should illustrate the
1 CONT relationships.  I contributed a copy of a large booklet written by Grace
1 CONT Rodkey Barnard to the Indiana Co Hx/Gen Soc.  I do not know the parents
1 CONT of my Susan Rodkey but have not been tracking her.
1 CONT      Ruffner and Moyer?  Ruffners lived on the property adjacent to my
1 CONT 2nd Great-grandfather's farm in Brush Valley and a voting stubb or part
1 CONT of an election ad was in an old book I have from that side of the family
1 CONT with "Ruffner for judge" or such on it.   I think that at least one Ross
1 CONT married a Ruffner but have no evidence.  The story for Moyer is similar, a
1 CONT Meyer or Moyer living adjacent to my 4th Great-grandfather's acreage in
1 CONT Somerset/Bedford and was the signer following him on application for
1 CONT land warrant in 1784.  We think there was a connection prior to that but
1 CONT it is too slim a lead to follow at this point.
1 CONT       My interest lies in the Ross family with whom the Faust/Fousts are
1 CONT intermarried.  I have been looking for clues to the origin of my earliest
1 CONT Ross, James, who died 1801 in Somerset/Bedford Co and was born
1 CONT -where?- in about 1730.  So now I am following any possible collateral
1 CONT lead which might give me even the smallest bit of information which in
1 CONT turn could lead to a clue to follow  and track down that elusive man.
1 CONT Common names are the genealogists nightmare!

1 CONT I'm going to print everything out from now on. The only other dates I have
1 CONT state that Michael was born in Europe in 1722 and died at Lancaster in
1 CONT April or May of 1762. He seems to have been buried at Trinity Lutheran
1 CONT Church there. His wife was Elizabeth and I don't even know what her last
1 CONT name was.
1 NOTE I also have, and you probably have this also, that he may have been the
1 CONT brother of Philip Jacob Luttman and (the other) Eberhart Luttman who
1 CONT arrived in Philadelphia on 7 October 1743 and 23 September 1752.
1 NOTE My aunt has written that Eberhart (our ancestor) served with the 6th
1 CONT Regiment of Lancaster Co. as a private. The unit was commanded by Col.
1 CONT Robert Magaw and other officers were Capt. John Doyle, Lt. Thomas
1 CONT Doyle,and
1 CONT Lt. Ed spears. Apparently he served from 1778 through 1781.
1 NOTE The old clock is in pretty bad shape. It has just been in use on the
