He lived on the 1 CONC Starr farm in the Manavon tract, became a miller ;and operated amill with 1 CONC his brother James Starr but sold the business in 1748 to Samuel Jones and 1 CONC Hacob Hilderbrand. 1 CONT 1 CONT Moses Starr was married 1st in a Quaker Meeting in Chester Co. to Sarah 1 CONC Davis, born in 1718. Some sources say they were married in 1745 at 1 CONC Esttown, Pa. Supposedly there are Quaker records of this first marriage 1 CONC and of a disagreement between Moses Starr, his wife and her father. the 1 CONC marriage must have been disolved. Have never been able to located these 1 CONC records. Later there are Quaker records showing Moses and a brother was 1 CONC dismissed and by 1755 Moses was no longer a member of the Quaker Meeting. 1 CONC This must have been when he went to New Jersy and married his second 1 CONC wife, Margaret Quartlebaum, probally around 1755/56. 1 CONT 1 CONT It is not certain where in New Jersey Moses and Margaret lived. Some 1 CONC think he 1 CONT lived in somerset Co., however, there was a Moses Starr on a list of 1 CONC travern owners in Hunterdon Co., N.J. It is beleived that most of their 1 CONC children were probably born in Bridgewater twp., Somerset Co., Cumberlan 1 CONC Co, or Hunterdon Co., N.J. 1 CONT 1 CONT Moses Starr then moved to central Pa. near Honey Grove and a gap in the 1 CONC Tuscorona Mountains where he bought land. There are a few tax records for 1 CONC Moses Starr. They sold their land in 1794. Their son jhohn Starr, then 1 CONC living in Hampshire Co., West Va. was a witness to the deed. It is not 1 CONC know what happened to Moses and Margaret Starr. The indian name of the stream was Ontelaunee, meaning "The little 1 CONC maid of the big mother", the Schuylkill river being the big mother. The 1 CONC English settlers translated it into Maiden Creek. 1 CONT 1 CONT Moses and Deborah Starr settled along this stream about three miles up 1 CONC stream from where it flows into the river. They were the first white 1 CONC settlers in this section of Berks county. They were soon followed by 1 CONC Francis Parvin who settled three miles to the south of them at what is 1 CONC now Berkley and by Jacob Lightfoot who settled just across the Maiden 1 CONC Creek from them.
