1 CONT      Warren Llewellyn Hill Jr. was born 15 January 1925 in the town of 
1 CONC Adel, in Cook County Georgia.  He was the youngest of three children from 
1 CONC the marriage of Warren L Hill Sr and Eulola Green.
1 CONT
1 CONT      His father moved the family in April of 1925 to Pavo, in Thomas 
1 CONC County Georgia where Warren grew up in a rural community during the Great 
1 CONC Depression of the 1930s.  Even though times were hard, his father did see 
1 CONC that Warren, his brother James and his sister Doris attended school.  
1 CONC Warren played on the Pavo High School basketball team during 1940 through 
1 CONC 1942.  The last two years of school, 1942-43, he earned $20.00 a month by 
1 CONC driving the school bus that picked up the children in the community who 
1 CONC attended Pavo High.  This experience gained driving that old school bus 
1 CONC would eventually lead him on a long road that would span 42 years of his 
1 CONC adult life.

1 CONT      He graduated in 1943 and gained employment at the Moultrie Sheet 
1 CONC Metal Plant.  The sheet metal was utilized in the building of AT-6 
1 CONC Trainer airplanes for training pilots who would eventually fly fighter 
1 CONC aircraft during World WarII.  For one reason or another, Warren left this 
1 CONC job and moved to Jacksonville Florida where he lived with relatives.  
1 CONC From March 1944 through March 1945 he worked at the Saint John's Ship 
1 CONC Builders company making ship smokestacks.
1 CONT
1 CONT      In March of 1945 Warren returned to Georgia to eventually start 
1 CONC driving commercial buses.  He worked for the Georgia Coaches of the 
1 CONC Trailways Bus Lines operating out of Albany Georgia.  His low seniority 
1 CONC with Trailways required him to move often during his early years with the 
1 CONC company.  After driving four years with Trailways he married Mabel Lois 
1 CONC Williams of Pelham Georgia on 11 April 1949.
1 CONT
1 CONT      Warren's job still required constant moving and it provided little 
1 CONC chance of settling in one location.  However, while driving buses out of 
1 CONC Atlanta Georgia, his son Warren David Hill was born on 3 November 1952.  
1 CONC The family still continued to move based upon where Trailways sent Warren 
1 CONC throughout southeast Georgia and north Florida.
1 CONT
1 CONT      After nine years with Trailways, Warren's seniority finally allowed 
1 CONC him to settle his family in Tallahassee Florida from 1954 through early 
1 CONC 1961.  It was in Tallahassee where his second child, Linda Karen Hill was 
1 CONC born on 17 October 1957.  In 1961 Warren moved the family to Tampa 
1 CONC Florida.  Driving for Trailways out of Tampa provided a permanent home 
1 CONC location for the next twenty-six years.

1 CONT      In 1970 his son David came to work at Trailways as a ticket agent.  
1 CONC David remained only four years with the company before deciding to enlist 
1 CONC in the Army in 1974.  His daughter Karen would eventually move out on her 
1 CONC own after graduating high school in 1975.  Warren and Mabel moved to 
1 CONC Zephyrhills Florida where they lived for a few years.

1 CONT      Warren retired from Trailways in 1987 having forty-two years with 
1 CONC the company and over two-million accident free miles on the road behind 
1 CONC him.  He had risen from being the new driver to the number two driver 
1 CONC with the most seniority.

1 CONT      With retirement and the children on their own, it seemed time to 
1 CONC move again.  Warren and Mabel moved to Augusta Georgia to a house left to 
1 CONC Warren by his sister Doris when she died.  They eventually moved to 
1 CONC Moultrie Georgia where they presently reside.

1 CONT      Warren Llewellyn Hill Sr. was born 5 July 1898 in the Rock Hill area 
1 CONC near Ashburn in Turner County, Georgia.  He was the third child of seven 
1 CONC from the marriage of Robert Lee Hill and Clyde Elba Hill.  His brothers 
1 CONC and sisters were Versa Mae, Ruby, Fanny Claire, Louis Hamp, Caleb 
1 CONC Freeman, and Hazel Grace Hill.

1 CONT      Warren L. married a Eulola Masyl Green on 11 August 1918 and they 
1 CONC had three children: Doris Larue, James Lee, and Warren Llewellyn Jr.  
1 CONC Doris married a Hugh Dewitt Dennis,  Warren married a Mabel Lois Williams 
1 CONC of Pelham, Georgia.  James served in the military during World War II and 
1 CONC during the Korean Conflict and never did marry.

1 CONT       Warren obtained any job from hauling logs for sawmills, being a 
1 CONC sharecropper, to doing public works for the town of Adel, Georgia where 
1 CONC they lived for a while.  In April 1925 he moved his family to the rural 
1 CONC town of Pavo, Georgia.  The Great Depression in the 1930s and World War 
1 CONC II in the 1940s were hard times for families including Warren L's.  If 
1 CONC work was not available, he bootlegged whiskey to provide money for his 
1 CONC family to by the essential necessities to live.  He drilled wells for a 
1 CONC ice plant in Adel, Georgia that made their own ice and drove trucks for 
1 CONC other people hauling produce to markets.  He also did night security work 
1 CONC at the sawmill in Pavo.  This led to a night job as a police officer for 
1 CONC Pavo in the late 40s and early 1950s.  Warren and Lola Hill lived out the 
1 CONC rest of their lives at their home in Pavo.

1 CONT      Warren L. died 26 May 1964 and his wife Lola died a few years later 
1 CONC on 1 April 1966.  They are both buried at the cemetary in Pavo, Georgia.

1 CONC      Robert Lee Hill was born 28 Oct 1867 in Macon Co., GA. He was the 
1 CONC fourth of nine children born to Caleb Freeman Hill and Martha Bryan.  His 
1 CONC father moved the family, sometime between 1888 and 1889,  to the area 
1 CONC around Ashburn, Turner Co., GA.
1 CONT      He married a Clyde Elba Hill on 20 Dec 1889. The only record 
1 CONC substantiating this date , is from the family bible owned by his son, 
1 CONC (named after his father), Caleb Freeman Hill, of Moultrie, GA.  Turner 
1 CONC Co, GA at this time was partially in Worth and Irwin Counties.  Clyde, or 
1 CONC Gransen Hill as she was called by her grandchildren, was the daughter of 
1 CONC a Gilbert and Mary Hill, also of Macon Co., GA.
1 CONT      Robert is shown on the 1910 Census as living in the town of Sycamore 
1 CONC about a mile south of Ashburn in Turner Co, GA.  His family members a 
1 CONC listed as Versa Mae, Ruby, Warren L., Fanny C., Louis H., Caleb F., and

1 CONC      CALEB FREEMAN HILL was born around the year 1832 possibly in Bibb 
1 CONC County, Georgia.  His family moved at sometime after the 1830 census to 
1 CONC reside near the town of Lanier in Macon County, Georgia where he may have 
1 CONC been born.  He was the second child of six, (three brothers and three 
1 CONC sisters), from the marriage of SLAUGHTER HILL and ELIZABETH MAULDEN.  He 
1 CONC is named in the 1850 Macon County, GA census as living with his parents.  
1 CONC His age is given as 17.

1 CONT      His marriage to a MARTHA BRYAN was recorded in Macon County, GA on 
1 CONC 31 June 1857.  The 1860 Macon County, GA census shows him with his own 
1 CONC household and family.  CALEB appears to have lived on property belonging 
1 CONC to or given to him by his father SLAUGHTER HILL.

1 CONT      CALEB HILL's participation in the Civil War is copied from the book 
1 CONC on the History of Macon County by Mrs. Louisa F. Hays:

1 CONT      "During the first half of the 1860s the country was in turmoil from 
1 CONC the Civil War.  Lieutenant Caleb F. Hill, a Lieutenant Maffett, and 
1 CONC Captain J.D. Frederick organized Company A, Macon County Guards as part 
1 CONC of the 10th Georgia Battalion in the town of Lanier.  The 10th GA. Bn., 
1 CONC commanded by Major John E. Rylander, was initially organized at Camp 
1 CONC Stephens, GA. on
1 CONT 17 March 1862 and consisted of the following four companies:
1 CONT
1 CONT    Co A, Macon County Guards, Macon County, Capt. J.D. Frederick
1 CONT    Co B, Worth Rebels, Worth County, Capt. Daniel Henderson
1 CONT    Co C, Zollicoffer Rifles, Sumter County, Capt. B.F. Bell
1 CONT    Co D, Whittle Guards, Bibb County, Capt. W.L. Jones

1 CONT      Caleb's company along with the 10th GA. remained at Camp Stephens 
1 CONC until 14 May 1862.  At this time the 10th GA. was ordered to Macon, GA. 
1 CONC for the purpose of guarding several thousand federal prisoners at Camp 
1 CONC Oglethorpe.  By order of Brigadier General Mercer, commanding department 
1 CONC of Georgia, a fifth company was formed on 17 July 1862 with Capt. John L. 
1 CONC Adderton commanding.  On 15 December 1862, orders were received for the 
1 CONC battalion to proceed to Virginia to join General Robert E. Lee's Army at 
1 CONC Fredericksburg, VA.  The battalion arrived on 27 December 1862 and was 
1 CONC attached to General G.T. Anderson's Brigade, General Hood's Division, 
1 CONC Longstreet's Corps.

1 CONT      By 17 February 1863, Caleb's company marched with General Lee's Army 
1 CONC from Fredericksburg to Richmond during a bitter northern Virginia 
1 CONC snowstorm where the 10th GA. participated in the campaign against 
1 CONC Suffolk.  Near the end of this engagement, the 10th GA. was exchanged for 
1 CONC the 59th Georgia Regiment, and was ordered to Fort Powhatten, on the 
1 CONC James River.  This important position was held by the 10th GA. for nearly 
1 CONC two months.

1 CONT      The federal forces eventually attacked the fort by both land and sea 
1 CONC with vastly superior forces.  General D.H. Hill ordered the evacuation of 
1 CONC the fort and the 10th GA. fell back to Petersburg.
1 CONT  
1 CONT      By the middle of August 1863, the 10th GA was ordered to Franklin, 
1 CONC VA to support the Blackwater Line which it held for eight months.  About 
1 CONC 25 April 1864, the 10th GA was ordered to report to General Lee, at 
1 CONC Orange Courthouse, VA. and was assigned to the brigade of General A.R. 
1 CONC Wright, Anderson's Division, A.P. Hill's Corps.  Caleb's unit 
1 CONC participated more or less in all the fierce battles and fatiguing marches 
1 CONC of this memorable campaign which included a desperate charge upon the 
1 CONC Federal Army's fortified positions on 14 May 1864 at Spottsylvania 
1 CONC Court-House.
1 CONT
1 CONT      Caleb was promoted to Captain on 2 June 1864 and assumed commmand of 
1 CONC Company A when Captain Frederick assumed command of the 10th GA upon 
1 CONC Major Rylander's death at the battle of Cold Harbor or Gaines Mill on 
1 CONC this date.  On the 22nd and 23rd June 1864, Caleb's company with the 10th 
1 CONC GA fought in a fierce battle near Petersburg, VA.  The 10th GA was 
1 CONC assigned picket duty three-quarters of a mile in advance of the line of 
1 CONC entrenchments and was not engaged with all the balance of Wright Brigade 
1 CONC on the terrific battle on 30 July 1864.  The battalion was about two 
1 CONC miles from the scene of the explosion at Grant's Mine, and the charge of 
1 CONC Wright's Brigade on this date.  * Note: I am still researching Caleb's 
1 CONC company and the battles the unit participated in from 30 July 1864 until 
1 CONC the Confederate surrender at Appomattox, VA.  The pension records for the 
1 CONC Confederate Army indicates he may have been present for the surrender at 
1 CONC Appomattox, VA on 9 April 1865.  A "Parole Prisoner Pass" owned by a Mr. 
1 CONC Boze Kitchens, dated 16 April 1865, which he valued highly, showed 
1 CONC Captain Caleb Hill's signature (C.F. Hill, Captain, Commanding)".

1 CONT      After the Civil War, Caleb returned back to his home in Lanier, 
1 CONC Georgia.  Apparently CALEB, his father, and brothers were in high 
1 CONC standing with the local community.  They have all held various positions 
1 CONC of importance within Macon County and the town of Lanier.  CALEB was one 
1 CONC of the last trustees for the Lanier Male & Female Academy before it 
1 CONC closed down in 1868.  It was a position previously occupied early in the 
1 CONC institution's history by his father.  CALEB was also elected to the Macon 
1 CONC County Road Commission for District 814 and served from 1869 to 1872.

1 CONT      The 1880 Census showed CALEB and his family still lived in Macon 
1 CONC County, Georgia.  Also listed on the census was his wife's brother 
1 CONC Middleton Bryan(t), age 21, a Martha Bryan(t), age 38, and her daughter 
1 CONC Virginia, age 17.  Records of a land sale to a Mr. G. Johnson, on 6 
1 CONC January 1888, indicate CALEB lived in Macon County until around that date.

1 CONT      He had resided in Macon County until late in his life when he and 
1 CONC his wife moved to Ashburn, Georgia in what was then Irwin County (Ashburn 
1 CONC became part of Turner County when it was established in 1903).

1 CONT      On April 5, 1890, the members of the Methodist church in the town of 
1 CONC Sycamore, Georgia established a building committe for a new church.  
1 CONC Caleb was listed as one of the members.  Caleb was also elected as a 
1 CONC trustee of the church property during the first quarterly conference by 
1 CONC the church in 1891.  The 1900 Georgia Census (Soundex) shows CALEB living 
1 CONC in Irwin County, Georgia with his wife MARTHA.  Also shown during this 
1 CONC census, whether living with him or visiting were his daughters MAMMIE, 
1 CONC MINNIE  McMURRIAN, grandsons EUDER WARD, BRIAN & CLINTON McMURRIAN, 
1 CONC granddaughters ERA & CARRIE McMURRIAN.

1 CONC children and property she owned in Ashburn. Martha named her son YANCEY

1 CONT      Her eldest daughter LIZZIE KENDRICK was given her house and lot, in 
1 CONC Ashburn, GA, described as Lot 1, Block 45. The Five (5) room house faced 
1 CONC Railroad Street, 107 feet and running back east 194 feet.  A map of the 
1 CONC town drawn by P.E. Dennis showed the lot of land as number 132, 2nd 
1 CONC District of Worth Co, GA. The property was bounded on the north by 
1 CONC Jackson St, the east and south by property owned by J.S. Shingler, and on 
1 CONC the west by Railroad St.
1 CONT      The residue of Martha's property was divided among her children and 
1 CONC a grandchild named EULER WARD.  His share was placed in trust to her son 
1 CONC YANCEY HILL. YANCEY's petition to probate the Will provides the last 
1 CONC known locations of MARTHA HILL's children and their families. They are 
1 CONC identified as: Mrs. LIZZIE KENDRICK, Ashburn, GA;  CHARLIE HILL, 
1 CONC Weleetka, Indian Territory, (OK); HAMP HILL, Forest, CA; YANCEY HILL, 
1 CONC Montezuma, GA; R.L. HILL, Ashburn, GA; Mrs. MINNIE GRIFFIN, Ashburn, GA;

1 CONC      SLAUGHTER HILL (2)  was born in the state of North Carolina 
1 CONC according to the Georgia 1850 and 1860 census for Macon County.   His age 
1 CONC as listed by the census reports would place the his birth somewhere 
1 CONC between 1802 and 1803. (Note: The census for both these years reported 
1 CONC the age of an individual as of 1 June of the reported year). The name of 
1 CONC his parents or the county in which he was born is unknown as of this 
1 CONC writing. However, because of Slaughter's uncommon first name, I believe 
1 CONC he is related to a SLAUGHTER HILL (1) shown in the Halifax and Robeson 
1 CONC Co, NC census' for the years 1790 through 1810. SLAUGHTER HILL's (1) WILL 
1 CONC does eliminate SLAUGHTER HILL (2) as a son, but it is possible he may be 
1 CONC a grandson or possibly a nephew. 
1 CONT
1 CONT      SLAUGHTER HILL (2) is first documented as living in Bibb County, 
1 CONC Georgia sometime in the 1820's.  There is record of his marriage to an 
1 CONC ELIZABETH MAULDEN of Macon Georgia on 31 JAN 1828.  Her father, CALEB 
1 CONC MALDEN Sr., was supposedly the oldest citizen in Macon at the time of his 
1 CONC death. CALEB MAULDEN's, 24 Jan 1855 WILL, lists ELIZABETH as the wife of 
1 CONC SLAUGHTER HILL.  The 1830 Bibb County, Georgia Census shows SLAUGHTER 
1 CONC HILL's, age 20-30, his wife, age 20-30, and a son, age 5-10.

1 CONT      Somewhere between the 1830 census and 1838 he moved his family near 
1 CONC the town of Lanier, in Macon County, Georgia. According to a book on The 
1 CONC History of Macon Co, written by Mrs. Louise F. Hays, Lanier no longer 
1 CONC exists today but was located about 6 miles north of present day 
1 CONC Oglethorpe, Georgia.  All reminents of the town disappeared by 1868.  
1 CONC SLAUGHTER's name appears in Georgia's 1838 Tax Digest for Lanier with the 
1 CONC following personal and real property:

1 CONC value of $18,369.  The 1860 census indicates he had as many as 41 slaves.

1 CONT      Records show SLAUGHTER as a successful farmer and one of the first 
1 CONC residents and a prominent citizen of Lanier and Macon County.  He was the 
1 CONC  Justice of Inferior Court from 18 Feb 1839 to 14 Jan 1841, a position 
1 CONC later held twice by his oldest son WILLIAM W. HILL.  SLAUGHTER HILL is 
1 CONC also listed as one of the trustees appointed in the incorporation of the 
1 CONC Lanier Male and Female Academy in 1838.  This academy was one of the 
1 CONC first educational institutions in Macon County.  His second son CALEB 
1 CONC FREEMAN HILL was one of the last trustees when the academy disbanded in 
1 CONC 1868.

1 CONT      There is no indication when his first wife ELIZABETH died,  but it 
1 CONC was most likely before 1860.  She is mentioned in her father's 1855 Will 
1 CONC but is not shown on the 1860 Georgia census.

1 CONT      SLAUGHTER HILL had 3 sons and 3 daughters by his marriage to 
1 CONC ELIZABETH MAULDEN:   WILLIAM W, CALEB FREEMAN, HOWARD C, JULIA A, 
1 CONC MARGARETT E, and FRANCES C.  The list of their children was reconstructed 
1 CONC from the 1850 and 1860 census reports and from SLAUGHTER HILL's WILL, 
1 CONC dated 20 May 1861.

1 CONT      A second wife, SARAH E. WATERS is not mentioned by name in his WILL. 
1 CONC However, a son between her and SLAUGHTER named JEFFERSON DAVIS HILL is 
1 CONC shown. The 1860 census shows SARAH E. HILL, age 21,  residing with 
1 CONC SLAUGHTER HILL, his son HOWARD, and his daughter FRANCES C..  The 1860 
1 CONC census also indicates both SLAUGHTER and SARAH were married within the 
1 CONC year.  Macon county records show a SLAUGHTER HILL marrying a SARAH E.

1 CONC SARAH, was born 27 April 1861 and died 11 Sep 1863.  He is buried in the 
1 CONC Pleasant Grove Methodist cemetary across from the Pleasant Grove Baptist 
1 CONC Church on Georgia county road 287, just south of highway 127. SARAH's

1 CONC reported he was in the Confederate Army assigned to Co C, 12th Georgia 
1 CONC Volunteer Infantry (Davis Rifles).  I have completed further research and 
1 CONC have found there was another SLAUGHTER HILL(3) from Macon County who was 
1 CONC born 10 October 1840.  It was this SLAUGHTER HILL(3) and not my distant 
1 CONC ancestor who was assigned to this unit.

1 CONT      2. There is a also a possibility that this SLAUGHTER HILLl(3) may be 
1 CONC a relative because of the unusual first name.  He was the son of a JOHN 
1 CONC HILL who came to Macon Co and was originally from NC.  My research on 
1 CONC SLAUGHTER HILL(1) from the Robeson/Halifax Co, NC areas indicates he had 
1 CONC a son JOHN, that was born approximately the same time as the JOHN Hill in 
1 CONC Macon Co.  I hope to prove SLAUGHTER HILL(3) is a nephew/cousin of 
1 CONC SLAUGHTER HILL(2) and therefore making my Georgia family line link with 
1 CONC the North Carolina SLAUGHTER HILL(1) family lines .

1 CONT      3.  A Mrs OMA BARFIELD is mentioned in SLAUGHTER HILL's WILL.  
1 CONC Initial appearances would indicate she was his wife.  However, I have not 
1 CONC been able to find record of the marriage recorded in the probate records 
1 CONC of Macon county. SLAUGHTER HILL may have been legal guardian/trustee for 
1 CONC Mrs. BARFIELD and her children.  According to an 11 June 1861 appraisal 
1 CONC of SLAUGHTER HILL's property, Mrs. BARFIELD was given:

1 CONC and JOHN BARFIELD.  On the 1852 Tax Digest, a Mr. ENOS BARFIELD is shown 
1 CONC as owner of property listed as Lot #95, District #1, Macon Co., GA.  The 
1 CONC land was valued at $800.00 and the tax digest indicates he had 26 
1 CONC slaves.  ENOS BARFIELD may have been OMA BARFIELD'S husband, father, etc 
1 CONC ???.

1 CONT      4. Families in the Robeson Co, NC areas (Ashpole Swamp) are 
1 CONC associated in land deals with SLAUGHTER HILL(1) and his immediate 
1 CONC family.  This is another possible fact, clue, conjecture that I hope will

1 CONC sometime between the 1830 census and 1838.  His name first appears on the 
1 CONC 1850 Macon County Georgia census for
1 CONT Lanier, his age is given as 21.  That census indicates that he had been 
1 CONC enrolled or attended school within the year.

1 CONT      William married an Elizabeth E. Millier or Miller.  Based on the 
1 CONC 1860 Macon County Georgia census and the given ages of his children, they 
1 CONC were married probably in 1854.  The
1 CONT children from this marriage were:  Charles J.M. (Mack), Rosella, and 
1 CONC Joseph E.B. (Joe Brown).

1 CONT      William followed his fathers footsteps by serving as Justice of the 
1 CONC Inferior Court for Lanier, GA and Macon County.  He served two 
1 CONC back-to-back 4 year terms from 10 Jan 1861 to 1868. 
1 CONT William was also the executor of his fathers Will and responsible for the 
1 CONC distribution of the estate among Slaughter's children.  He filed for 
1 CONC homestead of lots 74 & 78 located in District 1 of
1 CONT Macon County, Georgia during 1872.

1 CONT      According to a narrative by a Kathleen Gilham Hill, the 
1 CONC daughter-in-law of his brother Yancey Hill, published in "The History of 
1 CONC Macon County" by L.F. Hays, William moved his family to
1 CONT live in Henry Ellen, Alabama. (Year moved is not known).
