They were introduced at Hess's Ice Cream Parlor 2 CONT in Brooklyn. Anne had been going with a guy named Johnny Morphat, but 2 CONT was not "attached" to anyone at the time. She and 2 CONT Kay went to a dance on May 18, 1935. That night, Wilbur drove Anne and 2 CONT Kay home. Kay wanted to sit in the front, so Anne climbed in the back 2 CONT seat. Wilbur was driving to Kay's house. Kay said, "I don't want to go 2 CONT home first, bring Anne home first." Wilbur said "No" and brought Kay 2 CONT Harrington home. After Kay got out of the car, Wilbur then asked 2 CONT Anne to go out with him. Anne said "Yes". 2 CONT Anne and Wilbur started going to the Knights of Columbus dances 2 CONT together. Wilbur couldn't dance so he would go down in the basement 2 CONT to the bar and Anne would stay upstairs and dance. That was fine with 2 CONT her. She still had things just the way she liked. Wilbur then figured 2 CONT that he'd better learn how to dance. 2 CONT Anne and Wilbur were saving money in the bank together. He 2 CONT regularly gave her money to add to the account. He went on a vacation 2 CONT with a friend of his, John Healy. While he was gone, he called Anne 2 CONT and told her he wanted her to get some of the money out of the bank 2 CONT because he needed it. She argued against it, he insisted. She sent 2 CONT him the amount he asked for. In addition, she withdrew all the money, 2 CONT wrote him a "Dear Wilbur" letter and enclosed his share of the money. 2 CONT She broke up with him. When Wilbur got the letter and the money, he 2 CONT was very upset. He took all the money and blew every penny at the 2 CONT Church bazaar that night. It wasn't till later that she knew that he 2 CONT had broken a finger and needed the money for a doctor, but by the 2 CONT time she found out, Wilbur had already blown the rest of the money. 2 CONT Anne started going with Johnny Musacchio. Wilbur was seeing 2 CONT Vera Webster. Anne continued to visit Gussie, Wilbur's mother. They 2 CONT liked each other very much. Once, Wilbur was there. They talked, and 2 CONT Gussie urged them to give it another go. They did. They got married 2 CONT on March 17, 1941. Sally Nodell was the maid of honor and Tommy Nodell 2 CONT was the best man. 2 CONT Kay Harrington ended up marrying Johnny Morphat. Johnny was killed 2 CONT in W W II, and Kay remarried. Kay died the night of the party 2 CONT celebrating Anne and Wilbur's fiftieth wedding anniversary. She sent 2 CONT a letter of congratulations and several old pictures to share with 2 CONT the party guests. The letter was read, the pictures shown to all. 2 CONT Anne returned the pictures by mail to Kay after the party. Her 2 CONT husband wrote back telling Anne of Kay's death. 2 CONT Wilbur worked as an expeditor for Fairchilds Aviation. He made 2 CONT sure that all the parts got to the right department. 2 CONT Anne and Wilbur lived in Ozone Park in a 3 room apartment when 2 CONT Tom was born. 2 CONT Wilbur received his draft notice in June, 1943. He told Wilbur "You're 2 CONT in the Navy now." Wilbur never did learn to swim. 2 CONT Wilbur enlisted into service on June 29, 1943. He entered into 2 CONT actual service on July 6, 1943 2 CONT Tom was three months old when Wilbur left for boot camp. Anne 2 CONT put the furniture in storage, gave up the apartment and moved in with 2 CONT Wilbur's parents. 2 CONT When Wilbur came home from boot camp, he and Anne went to visit 2 CONT some of their friends. While there, the suggestion was made that 2 CONT Anne go to Fairchilds Aviation for a job. Wilbur encouraged her to 2 CONT do it although she was not too anxious to go to work. She was given 2 CONT a position there and started immediately. 2 CONT Wilbur was assigned to the Destroyer 443, the USS Swanson, 2 CONT out of Brooklyn Navy Yard. Because Wilbur said he could type, he 2 CONT was made a Yoeman, 1st Class. The ship performed convoy duty in 2 CONT Casablanca, Great Britain, Mermansk and in Africa. On January 1, 2 CONT 1944, they went through the Panama Canal. Afterwards, they were 2 CONT in the Asiatic Pacific. The crew of Destroyer 443, USS Swanson, was 2 CONT notably that which rescued the first B-29 crew shot down in an air 2 CONT raid over Japan. This was the first air raid made on Japan by a land 2 CONT based plane. The B-29 crew was located in the water {by using a 2 CONT tracking device} between ocean swells floating in rubber rafts. 2 CONT Wilbur came home in May, 1945. He was in time for Tom's second 2 CONT birthday. He brought Anne and Tom by train with him to Washington. 2 CONT They made a strange looking family. Anne had red hair, Wilbur had 2 CONT black hair and Tom had blonde hair. Tom kept crying, "I want my 2 CONT grandpa." They got a small bungalow in Port Orchard and stayed 2 CONT together there for six weeks. The first day there, {it was a very 2 CONT small two room place with a front door and a back door} Tom went 2 CONT out the back door. Anne and Wilbur didn't see him go out, they just 2 CONT saw the door open and Tom gone. They found him soon after. He said he 2 CONT was looking for his grandpa. 2 CONT At first, Anne was very dissappointed because there was not a 2 CONT complete kitchen. She also had not brought along ration stamps. 2 CONT Some of the men from the ship brought over food and other supplies 2 CONT and that made Anne feel much better. 2 CONT Tom and Anne came home by themselves in June. Wilbur was on his 2 CONT way to Japan. On the train, Tom called every man in uniform Daddy. 2 CONT Once, on the destroyer, Wilbur had to hold a lamp during an 2 CONT emergency surgery. A man's appendix had to be removed. The operation 2 CONT was successful and the man was dropped off in Guam two days later. 2 CONT Wilbur earned many medals including: 2 CONT The American Campaign Medal 2 CONT The European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal 2 CONT The Philipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 star 2 CONT The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze stars. 2 CONT The Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia clasp 2 CONT The World War II Victory Medal 2 CONT (above documented in letter from: 2 CONT The Bureau of Naval Personnel 2 CONT Discharged Enlisted Personnel Records Branch 2 CONT US Naval Records Management Center 2 CONT 9700 Page Blvd. St. Louis 14, MO. 2 CONT The war was over on August 15th and two and a half years after 2 CONT Wilbur went into the service, he was discharged on 10-29-1945. 2 CONT He also served on the USNS Sampson, NY and PSC Lido Beach, LI, NY. 2 CONT He went back to 2 CONT work for Fairchilds. {Fairchilds was around the corner from Jamaica 2 CONT Hospital.} Since the war was over, the government contracts had 2 CONT stopped coming in for aircraft. Fairchilds had to diversify. Wilbur 2 CONT was placed in the stockroom. 2 CONT Anne and Wilbur moved to Baldwin, to a house owned by her 2 CONT brother Larry. The house in Baldwin was beautiful. It had a fireplace 2 CONT in the living room, a formal dining room, a breakfast nook, three 2 CONT bedrooms and a large white tile bathroom upstairs. They lived in the 2 CONT Baldwin house when Kenny was born. Since Fairchilds was by the 2 CONT hospital, Wilbur could go see Anne at lunchtime while she was there 2 CONT having Kenny. 2 CONT Wilbur hated his job since it had changed to the stockroom 2 CONT position. After a while, he quit. He then went to Evans Dairy and also 2 CONT drove a cab on weekends. He purchased a house on Schley Avenue in 2 CONT Lindenhurst, Long Island for $4,000.00/Nothing down. Anne cried at the 2 CONT idea of moving from the beautiful house in Baldwin to the little bitty 2 CONT house in Lindenhurst. The real estate agent said "Oh, you can make 2 CONT a lovely little doll house out of this." Anne said "You make yourself 2 CONT a doll house, I hate it!" They moved in and made the best of it. 2 CONT When Anne was pregnant with the twins, the house would get so 2 CONT hot in the summer, she would go outside, get the garden hose and wet 2 CONT down the roof to cool the house. The twins were born bringing the 2 CONT number to six Schnatzes on Schley. 2 CONT Wilbur again changed jobs going to work at Juliano's and then 2 CONT later, Pinter's. After driving trucks for a long time, Pinter's asked 2 CONT Wilbur to go into the office. He did that for many years. Then 2 CONT he wanted to go into business for himself. He did that, opening a 2 CONT company with Bert Early. They called the company "Early Warehouse" and 2 CONT their motto was "Call Early before it's too late". The partnership was 2 CONT a good idea but it was just a bad time to start a new company. 2 CONT In all, they had four children; Tom, Kenny, Phil and Geri. Anne 2 CONT says that all of her children were good kids. Tom was the most quiet 2 CONT and the best behaved. Kenny got hit more than any of them because 2 CONT every time he would walk by Anne in the house, he would duck. Anne 2 CONT would hit him and say "You must have done something wrong...if you're 2 CONT ducking, you must feel guilty." 2 CONT In 1959, Anne and Wilbur sold the house on Schley Ave. for $9,000. 2 CONT They rented a house while they had a new one built. The new house was 2 CONT located at 234 Wyona Ave. They moved into the new house in May, 1960. 2 CONT The whole family really enjoyed the new home. Wilbur was then working 2 CONT at Pinter's. He opened his warehouse in 1969 and worked there till 2 CONT he retired in 1976. Anne also retired in 1976 from the library. 2 CONT They sold their home in New York and moved to Fairway Village 2 CONT in Largo, Florida in 1976. 2 CONT The war was over on August 15th and Wilbur was discharged (1945). 2 CONT After a while, Wilbur changed jobs going to work for Evans Dairy and 2 CONT also drove a cab on weekends. 2 CONT Anne used to clean the house on Fridays. The kids had to stay 2 CONT outside and she would not let them come in while she was cleaning. 2 CONT She spent the whole day cleaning the house. She always cleaned the 2 CONT house on Fridays, washed clothes on Mondays and ironed on Tuesdays. 2 CONT Wilbur again changed jobs going to work at Juliano's and then 2 CONT later, Pinter's. Wilbur and Bert Early opened their own business. 2 CONT They called the company "Early Warehouse" and their motto was 2 CONT "Call Early Before It's Too Late". Wilbur was then working 2 CONT for a tire company till he retired at 62. Anne took the test and 2 CONT passed getting her high-school equivalency diploma (#2244) in 1961. 2 CONT Anne worked at the library till Wilbur retired and she retired also. 2 CONT They sold their home in New York and moved to Fairway Village 2 CONT in Largo, Florida in 1976. They enjoyed the warm weather, their many 2 CONT friends, square dancing and reading. Anne loved to read romance 2 CONT novels. She had special television shows she watched. She liked 2 CONT "Larry King Live","60 Minutes","Murder She Wrote","Wheel of Fortune", 2 CONT etc. 2 CONT Anne never learned to drive a car. Wilbur drove her wherever she 2 CONT had to go. 2 CONT They enjoyed their Florida home until Anne suddenly suffered 2 CONT a series of strokes and died in October, 1994. 2 CONT After Anne died, Wilbur lived alone in their Florida home until 2 CONT June, 1995. His suffering with the emphasemia and the isolation from 2 CONT his family became too hard to endure. He moved back to Long Island to be with 2 CONT most of his children. 1 FAMS @F133@ 1 FAMC @F284@ 0 @I361@ INDI 1 NAME Elizabeth Anne /Schnatz/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 9 OCT 1969 2 PLAC Raleigh,Wake County,NC 1 FAMS @F668@ 1 FAMC @F20@ 0 @I362@ INDI 1 NAME Kristen Diane /Schnatz/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 10 JAN 1973 2 PLAC Metairie,Jefferson Parish,La. 1 FAMS @F134@ 1 FAMC @F20@ 0 @I363@ INDI 1 NAME Diane Elsa /Hegel/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 27 MAR 1947 2 PLAC NY 1 NOTE !BIRTH-2ND MARRIAGE: Information provided by Kristen Diane Schnatz Yeager, 2 CONT Kenner, Louisiana. 1 FAMS @F20@ 0 @I364@ INDI 1 NAME Edwin Benard /Yeager/ 1 TITL IV 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 13 AUG 1994 2 PLAC Metairie,Jefferson Parish,La. 1 CHR 2 DATE SEP 1994 2 PLAC Metairie,Jefferson Parish,La. 1 NOTE !BIO: 'Lil Bubby was baptized at Atonement Lutheran Church 9/18/1994. 1 FAMC @F134@ 0 @I365@ INDI 1 NAME Edwin Benard /Yeager/ 1 TITL III 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 5 MAR 1972 2 PLAC New Orleans,La.,La. 1 FAMS @F134@ 0 @I774@ INDI 1 NAME Jacob Henry /Schnatz/ 1 TITL Jr. 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE APR 1880 2 PLAC NY,Brooklyn,NY 1 DEAT 2 DATE 13 APR 1917 2 PLAC NY,Brooklyn,NY 1 BURI 2 DATE 16 APR 1917 2 PLAC Greenwood Cem.,Brooklyn,NY 1 NOTE !BIO: Jacob was called Jake or Jack by his friends.
