2 CONT   Earl L. Lacy, 42, of Kansas City, KS and a former resident of Independence,
2 CONT KS, died at 12:50 PM, Monday at the University of Kansas Medical Center in
2 CONT Kansas City, KS where he had been a patient since May 7th.
2 CONT   Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday at the Potts Chapel with the
2 CONT Rev. Jerry Grieves of the Church of the Breathern officiating. Interment will be
2 CONT at Elk Falls Cemetery. Friends may call at the Potts Chapel-Schmidt Funeral
2 CONT Chapel after 5 PM today.
2 CONT   Earl Leonard Lacy was born Dec 20, 1942 in Sedan, KS, the son of
2 CONT Virgil Ivan Lacy and Nellie Viola Sprague.
2 CONT   He attended school in Independence and served 2 years in the US Navy.
2 CONT Following his discharge from the Navy he returned to Independence and was
2 CONT employed with Electra Mfg Co, as an electrician and later with the Independence
2 CONT Bottling Company.
2 CONT   He later moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he had been working in the field
2 CONT of computers.
2 CONT   On Jan 20, 1961 in Independence, he was united in marriage to Alice Faye
2 CONT Campbell. Two children were born to this union. The couple later divorced.
2 CONT   Surviving are his two daughters, Debbie Cone of Bartlesville, OK and
2 CONT Annette Brandes of Topeka, KS, his mother, Nellie Viola Lacy of Independence,
2 CONT one grandson, Spencer Scott Cone of Bartlesville, OK, one brother, Dwayne
2 CONT Ivan Lacy of Moore, OK, one sister, Beulah Mae Williamson of Neosho, MO and
2 CONT and his former wife, Alice Faye Windle of Granite, OK, one niece,
2 CONT three nephews and many other friends and relatives. His father, Virgil Ivan
2 CONT Lacy, preceeded him in death in 1975.

2 CONT   A 43 year old man was critically wounded Tuesday afternoon at his home on the
2 CONT south side of KC, KS. Police said they found Earl L. Lacy in the back bedroom
2 CONT of the two-story house at 3812 Strong Ave abount 2 PM.
2 CONT   Mr. Lacy was listed in critical condition Tuesday evening at the University
2 CONT of Kansas Medical Center.
2 CONT   Police said Mr. Lacy had been shot once in the head with a small caliber
2 CONT handgun. Police were questioning a 60 year-old woman late Tuesday in connection
2 CONT with the shooting.
2 CONT   Police said they were unsure of the time and motive for the shooting.  We
2 CONT We haven't determined exactly what occurred. said Lt. Mike Dailey, a police
2 CONT spokesman. We're not sure if it was an attempted sucicide or a crime. Right
2 CONT now we're just considering it a shooting. A small handgun was recovered
2 CONT at the scene. Lt. Dailey said the investigation was continuing.

2 CONT   Three persons, including an Indep resident and 2 Coffeyville residents, were
2 CONT killed in a two vehicle accident which occurred at 2:10 AM Sunday on Highway
2 CONT 75 1.9 miles North of Copan, OK. Those pronounced dead on arrival at Jane
2 CONT Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, OK were: Jerry L. Miller 31, of 1509 W.
2 CONT Laurel, Indep., an employee of Emerson Electric Co. and the driver of one of
2 CONT the vehicles. Clarence Edwards, 59, of Coffeyville, a former Indep resident and
2 CONT the driver of the other vehicle.
2 CONT   Funeral arrangements for Mr. Miller are pending with Webb & Rodrick Funeral
2 CONT Home. Miller was born Aug 17, 1946 at Long Beach, CA, the son of Harold C. and
2 CONT Esther (Heinze) Miller. A graduate of Indep High School, he served 12 years in
2 CONT the US Navy and was employed by Emerson Electric Co. at the time of his death.
2 CONT He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the VFW. Survivors include a
2 CONT daughter, Lana Miller of Vinita, OK; the father, Harold C. Miller of Indep.,
2 CONT the mother, Esther Miller of Seal Beach, CA, a sister, Sally Henisey of
2 CONT Lawrence; and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mamie Heiser of Independence.

2 CONT   Services for Jerry L. Miller, 31, will be held Wednesday at 2 PM in the Webb &
2 CONT Roderick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Jackson, pastor of the Zion
2 CONT Lutheran Church, officiating.  Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery with
2 CONT military graveside rites.

2 CONT   Mr. Miller died Sunday morning in an automobile accident on Highway 75 near
2 CONT Copan, OK.  He resided at 1509 West Laurel Street in Independence, KS.
2 CONT   Jerry is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Lutheran Section. (Northwest Section,
2 CONT Third Grave, Lot 2).  He was buried on Wednesday, February 14, 1979.

2 CONT he went with ease.  He knew some Karate.  He wanted to live like the natives
2 CONT in the places he went, and he respected their customs and religions. He learned
2 CONT to speak & write Japanese. At one time he practiced Buddhism. He was dedicated
2 CONT to the Navy during his years with the Military and was proud to serve. Jerry
2 CONT could be a very tender and loving person and was good with children.
2 CONT Jerry was very intelligent and could learn anything that he chose to.  He could
2 CONT also be a little devious at times, such as when he was angry with me after I
2 CONT had returned to Kansas from Japan, he wrote me a letter all in Japanese,
2 CONT knowing full well that I could not read it!  I did find a Japanese lady in
2 CONT Independence, but since she was from a different area of Japan than where he
2 CONT learned to read and write, she could not read the letter either, or else she
2 CONT chose not to.  He enjoyed reading and listening to music.

2 CONT Paul was a handsome man and was a lot of fun to be with.  He was always telling
2 CONT jokes and making everyone laugh.  We had been friends for a long time and I
2 CONT enjoyed his company.  He had been in the US Navy and had gotten out.  During
2 CONT that time he worked at the Cement Plant in Independence.  He and Delores had
2 CONT gotten divorced and they continued to have problems being in the same town, so
2 CONT Paul decided to join the Air Force.  One day before he was to leave for Thailand
2 CONT he was involved in an auto accident.  He was sent to Wichita to recover.  I was
2 CONT attending Junior College and we had dated off and on.  Jesse Ortiz, his
2 CONT x-brother-in-law called me and asked if I could go to Wichita to pick Paul up,
2 CONT as he was discharging from the hospital.  He stated that he had planned to go,
2 CONT but that he couldn't leave work. I said, sure I would be happy to.  I have
2 CONT always been a person that if I was needed by a friend I would always be there.
2 CONT I asked Vonda Wood, my friend if she would like to go also and she agreed.  It
2 CONT was raining really hard, but we made it there fine.  When we walked in, Paul was
2 CONT standing there in his uniform looking so very handsome.  The first thing out of
2 CONT his mouth was, " Alice will you marry me?"  My reaction was, "Oh, Hell yes,
2 CONT let's just find a Chaplain and get married.  Paul, you know I don't want to get
2 CONT married.  As soon as I graduate I will leave for Officers Candidate School in
2 CONT the Army.  The papers are ready to sign as soon as I graduate."
2 CONT Paul didn't say anymore, and Vonda & I went to the restroom before we left to
2 CONT come back to Independence.  She started in about I should really think about
2 CONT this as Paul was a nice guy and handsome.  We had quite a discussion and I kept
2 CONT saying NO.  We started home and it was still raining very hard.  Paul sat in
2 CONT the middle and kept looking at me in the rear view mirror.  He has really
2 CONT beautiful eyes and he kept talking all the way home about marriage.  Finally we
2 CONT reached Vonda's house and I was worn down.  I said we can't just go get
2 CONT married, and he said yes we can in Oklahoma.  I called Bartlesville and said,
2 CONT "There is no way we could get married tonight is there?" and they said no.
2 CONT Paul looked at Vonda and said, "If she doesn't marry me tonight she never will,
2 CONT please help me."  Vonda got on the phone and called Bartlesville again and set
2 CONT it up.  Tom, her husband walked in about that time and she told him we were
2 CONT getting married.  I don't remember the trip down there, the blood test or
2 CONT getting the license.  I do remember that there was some church service going on
2 CONT where we got married and they started playing the Wedding March and I told them
2 CONT please don't.  I don't remember the ceremony either, nor the ride home.  The
2 CONT next thing I remember is sitting in my living room and saying, "Oh, my God,
2 CONT what have I done?"  It wasn't that I didn't like Paul, because I did, but I
2 CONT didn't love him and I knew he was still in love with Delores.
2 CONT We moved to Wichita and he left for his tour overseas.  There was no money so I
2 CONT ended up coming back to Independence.  Finally the allotment checks started
2 CONT coming and we survived.  I won't go into all the details of while Paul was
2 CONT gone, because it's a long story.  We did write and his parents came to meet me.
2 CONT Paul sent me roses for my birthday.  I ended up moving to California and then
2 CONT joining the Army.  Then I got out and returned to Independence.  Paul came home
2 CONT and we moved to Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, MO.  We lived on base
2 CONT for a time and then bought a mobile home 12 X 65.  Then all 4 of Paul's
2 CONT children came to live with us along with my 2 that were already there.  I
2 CONT worked at the NCO Club as a Dishwasher and then ran the Package Store.  Times
2 CONT were hard, we had no air conditioning in the mobile home.  Tina, the oldest of
2 CONT Paul's children wanted her parents back together (which is understandable), so
2 CONT she tried us very hard.  Our marriage just was not meant to be, we both tried,
2 CONT but finally I decided to go back to Independence and I left in August of 1974.
2 CONT Paul came to Independence New Years of 1975 amd tried to talk me into coming
2 CONT back, but I said NO.  Then I took him some bunk beds up to MO for the kids and
2 CONT Tina cried the whole time I was there.  Finally I said, Paul, it just won't
2 CONT work.  We later divorced in June of 1975.  But, up until Paul remarried we
2 CONT called each other periodically to see how the other was doing.  He even came to
2 CONT Kiowa, KS to visit while I lived there.  I miss his calls as he is a really
2 CONT neat person, but most of all I hope he is happy.

2 CONT CHARLRS WINDLE
2 CONT   Charles Joel Windle passed away at his home in Granite, Oklahoma on September
2 CONT 2, 1996.  He had been in ill health for some time.
2 CONT   Charles was born on November 22, 1937 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Harmon
2 CONT Douglas Windle and Jessie Emma Miller.  He was the second of five children born
2 CONT to Harmon and Jessie.
2 CONT   Charles served in the United State Army as a Paratrooper.  After receiving an
2 CONT honorable discharge from the Army, he went to work at the Oklahoma State
2 CONT Reformatory serving in numerous positions.  For the past 12 years, he had been
2 CONT a Farm Supervisor at the prison.  He had been employed at OSR for over 20 years
2 CONT and was looking forward to retirement.
2 CONT   On January 7, 1961, in Mangum, Oklahoma, he was united in marriage to Barbara
2 CONT Louise Aebischer.  Two children were born to this union; Danny Lee Windle and
2 CONT Mary Elizabeth Windle.  Charles and Barbara later divorced, but always remained
2 CONT friends.
2 CONT   On March 30, 1983, in Granite, Oklahoma, Charles was united in marriage to
2 CONT Alice Faye (Campbell) Lacy.  Although no children were born to this union, he
2 CONT gained two daughters through this marriage, Debbie Diane Lacy and Annette
2 CONT Yvonne Lacy.  All of our children were present for the wedding.  Charles and
2 CONT Alice divorced in 1992, and remained close friends until his death.
2 CONT   Charles was loved by everyone who knew him and will be remembered for his
2 CONT wonderful qualities.  His sense of humor, his laugh, his goal to always win at
2 CONT whatever he made up his mind to do.  He was always there to offer a helping
2 CONT hand to those in need.  I know that Charles never met a stranger.
2 CONT   He loved animals and was raised and worked on a dairy farm.  In his spare
2 CONT time he broke and trained horses.  Charles, Barbara, Danny and Liz spent many
2 CONT hours training their horses and riding in playdays.  They were all winners and
2 CONT won many trophies during those years.
2 CONT   Later when covered wagons became popular, Charles had to have one; that was
2 CONT back in 1983.  His first was driven with horses and then later came the mules.
2 CONT He made many trips across the country with a goup of other wagon train friends.
2 CONT He loved the camping out and sitting around the campfire at night swapping
2 CONT stories with old friends.
2 CONT   Charles found their was a great deal of difference in riding a horse and
2 CONT driving one.  There were many times when he would have a run away and those
2 CONT with him would bail out, but he hung right in there until he regained control
2 CONT again.  One time the horses didn't stop until they reached the top of a
2 CONT haystack!  Everyone would laugh and say, "there goes Charles again" as he flew
2 CONT past them in the ditch.
2 CONT   Charles' mother, Jessie, preceded him in death in 1985.  He leaves to mourn
2 CONT his passing, his parents, Harmon and Naomi (Johnson)(Uptergrove) Windle; His
2 CONT son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Leslie Windle and grandson, Joel of Granite;
2 CONT his daughter, Liz Jones, Brad Coalson and grandson, Scott Jones of Hobart; his
2 CONT daughters and son-in-law through marriage, Joel Scott Cone and Debbie Cone and
2 CONT grandchildren, Amber, Spencer, Colton, Chandler and Chelsea Cone of League
2 CONT City, TX; Annette Brandes and grandson, James Brandes of Granite; former
2 CONT wives, Barbara (Aebischer) Windle Uptergrove  of Stillwater, OK and Alice
2 CONT (Campbell) Windle of Granite. Brothers, Tom Windle and wife, Ula May of
2 CONT Bartlesville, OK; Bob Windle and wife, Linda of Broken Arrow, OK; Sisters, Beth
2 CONT Waugh and husband Ken of Buffalo, OK; and Kathy Wade and husband, Dennis of
2 CONT Granite.  Brothers and sisters gained through marriage, Chet and Alice
2 CONT Uptergrove of Granite, Bert and Wanda Sunderland of Granite, Gary and Barbara
2 CONT Uptergrove of Stillwater, and Dale and Connie Uptergrove of Madill, OK.  Aunts,
2 CONT Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and more friends than most of us could ever
2 CONT wish for.
2 CONT   We have all lost a good friend and loved one, and there will always be an
2 CONT empty place in our hearts that can never be filled.

2 CONT attended school here. On October 21, 1932, at Independence, he was united in
2 CONT marriage to Evelyn Elenor Hayes, who survives at the home, 1707 West Oak. After
2 CONT their marriage, they lived in Okmulgee, OK for about 6 years before returning
2 CONT to Independence. He was employed with the Independence school for about 10
2 CONT years at the Junior High School.
2 CONT Survivors in addition to the widow of the home, are 1 daughter, Martha Schenck
2 CONT of Independence; 2 sons, James Driskill of Derby, KS and Bobby Driskill of
2 CONT Salina, KS; and 6 grandchildren.

2 CONT born January 7, 1873 place unknown at this time.  The second child was born in
2 CONT July 1875 in Kansas. From the Federal Census it appears that they were married
2 CONT in either Howard Co, KS or a nearby county.  And since they owned land in
2 CONT Cedarvale, KS (Howard Co) their children were probably born there.

1 NOTE   Gregory Lyn Driskill, 25, of Omaha, NE, and formerly of Derby, KS, died
2 CONT Thursday in Omaha.  His death is under investigation by the Omaha Police
2 CONT Department.
2 CONT   Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday at Potts Chapel, with the
2 CONT Rev. Joe MacDonald, pastor of the North Woodlawn Baptist Church in Derby,
2 CONT officating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
2 CONT Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 8 PM Monday and from 9 AM to
2 CONT 1 PM Tuesday, when the casket will be closed.
2 CONT   Mr. Driskill was born August 24, 1967, in Wichita, KS to James E. and Shirley
2 CONT R. (Allred) Driskill.  He grew up and attended school in Derby.
2 CONT   Following his schooling, he enlisted in the US Air Force and at the time of
2 CONT his death was serving with the Air Force Reserve at McConnell Air Force Base in
2 CONT Wichita.
2 CONT   He was the operator of a truck terminal in Omaha for TNT Dugan Truck Lines.
2 CONT   Survivors include his parents, James and Shirley Driskill, Derby; one
2 CONT brother, Cameron, Wichita; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Stillman, Independence;
2 CONT and maternal grandmother, Arvilla Allred, Coffeyville.
2 CONT   Casketbearers for the Tuesday service will be Tech. Sgt. Andrew G. Cullum,
2 CONT Ernest B. Madison III, Matthew M. Orsman, Robert E. McHenry, Theodore M.

2 CONT widow of Albert C. Gibson & former owner of the Gibson Home Laundry, died at
2 CONT 10:15 PM, Saturday in Mercy Hospital, where she had been a patient since March
2 CONT 6. In recent weeks, Mrs. Gibson resided with a nephew, Joe Driskill, of 1707
2 CONT West Oak. Her home was at 615 North 14th.
2 CONT Funeral Services are to be at 2 PM, Tuesday at the Potts Funeral Home. The Rev.
2 CONT C.A. Shumway, Pastor of the First Assembly of God, will officiate. Interment
2 CONT will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
2 CONT Mrs. Gibson was born on October 17, 1884, East of Nowata. She was the daughter
2 CONT of James G. & Mary E. (Jackson) Driskill. Her marriage to Albert Gibson took
2 CONT place on Sept 29, 1908 in Ft Smith, Arkansas. Ten years later they came to
2 CONT Independence to make their home. Mr. Gibson preceded his wife in death in Sept
2 CONT 1955.
2 CONT Survivors are an adopted daughter, Mrs. Clyde (Laura) Barbarick of Ft Scott, KS
2 CONT and 4 nephews, Joe Driskill of this city, John, Carl & William Driskill of
2 CONT Nowata, OK. A granddaughter and 2 great grandchildren also survive.  Joe
2 CONT Driskill had been reared in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Gibson. Three brothers
2 CONT preceded Mrs. Gibson in death.
2 CONT Pallbearers at the Tuesday service will be Irvin Vandermark, Ivan Bracken,
2 CONT Harold Newmaster, Jesse, William & J.C. Clarkson.

2 CONT Nov 18, 1918--Mrs. A.C. Gibson of Independence, LeHunt, KS received a postcard
2 CONT from Bakersfield, CA (Minnie Stierwalt ?)

2 CONT Albert C. Gibson, 77, died at 8:25 PM Tuesday in Mercy Hospital after an 8
2 CONT month illness.
2 CONT He had lived in Independence since early childhood, except for Spanish-American
2 CONT War service & the years from 1910 to 1917, which he spent in California. He had
2 CONT been a carpenter during his adult life.
2 CONT Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM, Thursday in the Potts Funeral Home
2 CONT chapel, conducted by Rev. Paul Sodowsky of the Church of the Nazarene. Burial
2 CONT will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
2 CONT Mr. Gibson was born Feb 19, 1879 at Quenemo, KS to Willard & Alice (Cade)
2 CONT Gibson & accompanied them to Independence when a small child.
2 CONT On Sept 29, 1908 at Fort Smith, Arkansas, he was married to Nancy Driskill, who
2 CONT survives at the home, 615 1/2 North 14th.
2 CONT Other survivors include 3 foster children reared by Mr. & Mrs. Gibson. Two of
2 CONT them are children of a brother of Mrs. Gibson, Joe Driskill & Mrs. Martin
2 CONT Campbell, both of Independence. The other is Mrs. Clyde Barber of Fort Scott.
2 CONT He leaves a nephew, Fred Gibson of Okemah, OK & a great nephew, Edmund Gibson
2 CONT of Tulsa, OK, both of whom will be here for the services. A sister-in-law, Mrs.
2 CONT Dora Gibson & several nieces & nephews live in CA.
2 CONT Mr. Gibson was the last living member of his immediate family, which included
2 CONT 3 brothers & 4 sisters.
2 CONT Pallbearers will be Donald Newmaster, Ivan Bracken, Warren Sallisbury, Carl
2 CONT Elliott, Thomas Grant & Perry Newman.

2 CONT According to Laura Barbarick, Nancy worked at the Carlleon Hotel as a Chamber
2 CONT Maid in Ft Smith, Ark. She stated that Nancy met Albert in Ft Smith. This is
2 CONT not possible as the Gibson's lived in the Coffeyville--Independence area. She
2 CONT apparentley joined Albert in Ft Smith, Arkansas.
2 CONT Nov 11, 1910--Laura was with Nancy as there was a post cart to them from Minnie
2 CONT Stierwalt in Bakersfield, CA.
2 CONT Dec 25, 1913--Nancy lived at 1911 South Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA. This was
2 CONT after her marriage to Albert Gibson.

2 CONT In 1982, the Jackson Homestead, farm and cemetery were owned by Mrs. Willie
2 CONT Mason.
1 NOTE RESIDENCE:
2 CONT   Moved from Concordia Parrish, Louisana to Bell County,, TX in September 1851.
2 CONT Jacob built a log house there that year with a burntwood plaque so stating on
2 CONT the wall: the house was later boarded over and enlarged and is still there,
2 CONT and occupied, though not owned by a descendant anymore.
2 CONT   The Jackson Cemetery is on this property, however it is no longer used and it
2 CONT grown up in thorn bushes.
1 NOTE NOTE: The town of Bartlett extends across the boundary line of Bell and
2 CONT Williamson Counties, Texas.

2 CONT   On September 16, 1851, Jacob Jackson purchased from Riley and Margaret Dawson
2 CONT a tract of land in the Milam District of Bell County, Texas, west of Little
2 CONT River and in the waters of Donahoe Creek, identified in the deed as Bounty
2 CONT Warrant No. 803 issued to James G. Wilkinson in 1848, by him assigned to F.A.
2 CONT Thompson, from the latter conveyed to John Early, and from him conveyed to the
2 CONT said Riley Dawson.
2 CONT   Jacob Jackson and his family had arrived from Concordia Parrish, Louisana and
2 CONT this land was to become the Jackson Homestead for over 80 years.  They build a
2 CONT log house, which was later framed in and incorporated into a larger home.  It
2 CONT continues to be used as a residence.  The Jackson Family Cemetery, enclosed
2 CONT with a beautiful iron fense with entrance gates under an arch with the family
2 CONT name, is located on the same property.  This farm and ranch is located six
2 CONT miles east of Bartlett in the Donahoe Community and is hte home of Mrs. Willie
2 CONT Mason.
2 CONT   *Jacob Jackson was born in Pennsylvania on June 20, 1808 and died at Doanhoe
2 CONT on December 25, 1861.  His wife, *Jame M. Adams Jackson was born in South
2 CONT Carolina on December 22, 1828 amd died at Donahoe on December 4, 1883.  The
2 CONT children of Jacob Jackson by several marriages included:
1 NOTE 1. *Robert A. Jackson was born about 1832 in Kentucky.  He and his wife, *Amanda
2 CONT    Jackson were in Bell County, when the census was taken in 1870 and 1880.
2 CONT 2. *Miss Caroline Jackson was born about 1836 in Kentucky. She was married first
2 CONT    on November 11, 1852 to John Pennington, Jr., who was taken prisoner during
2 CONT    the Civil War and died at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois on April 26, 1863.
2 CONT    She married second, R. B. Fewell on June 22, 1868.  She died on August 11,
2 CONT    1886.  She had issue by both marriages.
2 CONT 3. *Benjamin S. (Uncle Ben) Jackson was born in Concordia Parrish, Louisana on
2 CONT    October 19, 1839.  During the Civil War, he enlisted in Downs Company,
2 CONT    Girley's Regiment and remained in the service until the close of the war,
2 CONT    when he returned to the Jackson Homestead near Donahoe.  He never married and
2 CONT    died on November 13, 1905.
2 CONT 4. *Miss Minerva J. Jackson was born in Louisana on February 10, 1846.  On
2 CONT     January 17, 1867, she was married to Jacob H. Garner.  She died on December
2 CONT     7, 1876.
2 CONT 5. *Miss Louisa Jackson was born in Louisana on May 10, 1847 and she died on
2 CONT     May 17, 1927.
2 CONT 6. *Miss Julia Jackson was born in Louisana on December 23, 1848.  She was
2 CONT     married to J. D. Hewett in 1896.  Her death occurred on February 21, 1905.
2 CONT 7.  J. W. (Uncle Billy) Jackson was born in Louisana on December 29, 1850 and
2 CONT     died in 1941.  His wife, *Molly L. Modesette Jackson died on February 19,
2 CONT     1913.
2 CONT 8. *Miss Catherine (Miss Caddy) Jackson was born in Bell County, Texas on

2 CONT 10. Miss Rebecca Jackson was born in Bell County, Texas about 1856.  She was
2 CONT     living at home when the 1880 census was taken.
2 CONT 11.*Miss Mary Ellen Jackson was born in Bell County, Texas on September 24,
2 CONT     1858 and died on February 13, 1884.
2 CONT 12. Joseph D. Jackson was born in Bell County, Texas about 1861.  He later
2 CONT     moved to Alpine, Texas.

1 NOTE   Historically, this homestead of the Jackson Family is worthy of a state
2 CONT marker.  It is one of the few places in the country that is complete with a
2 CONT house built in 1851 and the family cemetery intact.  Also, three sons of Jacob
2 CONT Jackson were born or grew up here to become cowmen and members of The Trail
2 CONT Drivers of Texas.  They were J.W. Jackson of Bartlett, TX; G.W. Jackson of
2 CONT Cleo, OK; and J.D. Jackson of Alpine, TX.  These three brothers ran a saloon
2 CONT and probably one of the first race tracks in Bell County on the north end of
2 CONT the Jackson Homestead, adjoining the property of Daniel McKay.  At one time the
2 CONT road went through the Jackson property, by the Jackson Cemetery, to the saloon
2 CONT and race track, by the McKays and on to Donahoe, Texas.
