She was Mattie 2 CONT Younglove, the daughter of Henry and Lydia Younglove and lived in Monroe before 2 CONT going to Detroit to make her home. She was eighty (80) years old last May 21st. 2 CONT She married Frank E. Wescott in 1879. They had two children, Mable and Harry. 2 CONT She was of a very strong and active mind and had the determination and 2 CONT characteristics of our old pioneer families. She was a hard worker in the 2 CONT church and fraternal organizations, being a member of the Order of Eastern Star 2 CONT but later in life withdrawing to devote all her time to the Rebecca Lodge. She 2 CONT is a past noble grand in that organization. It can well be said that she was 2 CONT the "Pride of Western Rebecca Lodge" - which words were printed in gold letters 2 CONT on the floral piece sent by the lodge. When she and Uncle Frank celebrated 2 CONT their Golden Wedding Anniversary, it was the lodge that put on the banquet and 2 CONT entertainment. Aunt Mattie 2 CONT stayed until late and went home feeling fine. Monday morning she cleaned the 2 CONT fruit cellar and also some of her camping equipment ready for a picnic. At noon 2 CONT she had lunch and then sat down and crocheted. She died instantly with the 2 CONT thread still on her finger. 2 CONT Plans had been made to bring her to the reunion to-day. She even said, "If I 2 CONT had a car I could drive my-self." She never feared traffic. When she was 72 2 CONT years old she drove me right down town on Woodward Avenue in Detroit. I wanted 2 CONT to take a street car but she said, "No," and insisted on taking me. 2 CONT She was lots of fun and liked to play jokes on people and could appreciate 2 CONT them when played on her. She loved to go camping and often pitched her tent at 2 CONT Rath's Flats at Grape and stayed for weeks. 2 CONT We have lost the last one of that family. We all know that none of us are 2 CONT here forever but it is so hard when someone leaves us. 2 CONT Very respectfully, 2 CONT Flora Mae Younglove Wolf 1 FAMS @F7@ 1 FAMC @F12@ 0 @I25@ INDI 1 NAME Harry Alfred /Wescott/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 24 JUN 1880 2 PLAC Monroe,Monroe,MI 1 DEAT 2 DATE 6 FEB 1939 2 PLAC Detroit,Wayne,MI 1 BURI 2 DATE FEB 1939 2 PLAC Detroit,Wayne,MI 1 NOTE !INFOR:(JAN 1994) No children - their children were a couple Boston Bulldogs. 2 CONT They owned an old farm in Fowlerville, MI (2nd home). In 1876, Henry joined the Methodist Episcopal 2 CONT Church and was an active member. 1 NOTE !OBIT:A Terrible Death: 2 CONT The people of Monroe were startled last friday Friday morning to learn that 2 CONT Henry Younglove, a resident of the county until a few months ago, had died in 2 CONT Detroit, Michigan, Thursday night of Hydrophobia, after several hours of 2 CONT undescrible pain and suffering. It appears that little more than a year ago, 2 CONT while living on his farm in Raisinville Township, MI, he was bitten upon the 2 CONT hand and upon the arm about half way between the wrist and the elbow by a pet 2 CONT Rat Terrior. He experienced no particular discomfort from the bites until last 2 CONT October, when the arm became considerably inflamed to the shoulder. It was 2 CONT pronounced a case of ersupelis but for several weeks he was very much depressed 2 CONT with brooding over matter and frequently expressed a fear of dieing with 2 CONT rabies. His mind then felt easier on the subject until two months ago when 2 CONT again he became considerably depressed and soon after the dog bit him again 2 CONT upon the same hand between the thumb and forefinger, but one tooth barely 2 CONT breaking the skin. The dog was not of a vicious nature and the biting was done 2 CONT in play. He never showed symptons of the terrible disease. The symptons did not 2 CONT show until 9 o'clock Wednesday evening when he was seized with a strong 2 CONT aversion for water. He grew alarming worse during the night, had some 2 CONT convulsions and early in the morning a doctor was called. After ascertaining 2 CONT the condition, he called in other medical assistance. The man had spasms during 2 CONT the day, each being more severe than its predessor. Between them he would act 2 CONT rational and apologized for his actions when the convulsions were upon him. 2 CONT Toward night another of the marked symptoms, an extreme thrist manifested 2 CONT itself and about 10 o'clock he was seized with the last most frightful 2 CONT convulsion, when he felt it coming on he was sitting in a chair and remarked to 2 CONT his son Sidney "I cannot stand this" and uttered a piercing shriek. A moment 2 CONT later he let another frightful scream and it took four people to keep him under 2 CONT control. He was placed on the floor face downwards and for 32 minutes the 2 CONT struggle with him was terrific. He would request to be let up, saying he would 2 CONT not hurt anyone, and when his request was not complied with he would threaten 2 CONT to kill his attendants. At the end of the time mentioned he became quiet and 2 CONT was turned upon his back, when he gasped twice and his agony was at an end. The 2 CONT doctor ascribed no signifigance to the second bite, but believed the whole 2 CONT trouble to have been from the first bite, over a year ago. The body after death 2 CONT underwent the change peculiar to the disease and the brain was somewhat 2 CONT congested. The rear portion of it and the upper part of the spinal column were 2 CONT removed and will be subjected to examination to ascertain for a certainty if 2 CONT rabies was the cause of death. The doctors are satified that such is the casse 2 CONT and the examination is being made in the interest of science. The remains were 2 CONT brought to Monroe, MI, Saturday and the funeral services held at the M.E. 2 CONT Church on Sunday Afternoon were largely attended. Date of Death 4-27-1887. 2 CONT Henry fought in the War and was wounded in the Battle of Richmond in 1864. 2 CONT REFERENCE:Monroe Paper 1887, Monroe County, MI Vital Records, Family 2 CONT Traditions, History of Monroe County, Michigan. 1 FAMS @F12@ 1 FAMC @F17@ 0 @I56@ INDI 1 NAME Lydia P. /Gale/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 15 OCT 1834 2 PLAC Monroe,Monroe,MI 1 DEAT 2 DATE 29 MAR 1910 2 PLAC Detroit,Wayne,MI 1 BURI 2 DATE 1 APR 1910 2 PLAC Monroe,Monroe,MI 1 REFN 23 1 NOTE !The 1860 Federal Census of Raisinville Township of Monroe County, Michigan 2 CONT shows Lidia living in dwelling 1039, family 1039 as a 25 year old female that 2 CONT was born in Michigan. 1 NOTE !The 1870 census of Lasalle, Monroe, MI shows Lydia as a 36 year old female 2 CONT keeping house and was born in Michigan. 1 NOTE !The 1880 census of Raisinville, Monroe, MI shows Lydia as a 45 year old 2 CONT female the wife of Henry Younglove keeping house.
