2 CONT and got her off. Grandma didn't even know she'd gotten off until she got
2 CONT to the next station and there was a telegram waiting that they were
2 CONT married. I think they were up there because grandma and grandpa were
2 CONT trying to keep Mama from seeing him.  And that's what happened. Because
2 CONT they didn't want Mama to marry him. You know, Daddy couldn't boast of a
2 CONT thing that suited Grandpa."
2 CONT Addie Zoe: "I don't know whether I should tell this or not, but I heard that
2 CONT that happened. And I heard, I don't know whether or not it's true, but I
2 CONT heard that grandpa got my daddy to go to Macon, I believe that's where
2 CONT they said they got the marriage license, and they did get a marriage
2 CONT licens. There was a record there. You know, that put Papa in the middle of
2 CONT it and he really didn't want to do it. But he didn't want to turn Grandpa

2 CONT --"Frederick Andrews was a native of and grew up in Pulaski County,
2 CONT Georgia, and there married his wife. Soon after their marriage they
2 CONT moved to Lee County, where they remained about one year, thence to
2 CONT Randolph County, which was their home for several years. There he
2 CONT served as tax collector of the county, and for awhile taught school and
2 CONT engaged in a mercantile business in Cuthbert. In 1844 he moved his
2 CONT family to Florida, where he died in 1846. He was one of the foremost men
2 CONT of his day, and possessed an excellent education for his time; he result
2 CONT of a quick grasping mind, and wide reading and study. His schooling was
2 CONT meager, but he gained great learning through close application to books.
2 CONT He was a devotee to music and possessed remarkable skill in, and
2 CONT knowledge of this art. Of literary tastes, he was a frequent contributor
2 CONT to the early newspapers and periodicals of the State. He was a captain in

2 CONT 59, who died in an Atlanta hospital after a brief illlness. Dr. Andrews
2 CONT was a prominent practicing physician here. --- Dr. D. M. Sanders, pastor
2 CONT of the First Baptist Church here, and Dr. T. M. Calloway, pastor of the
2 CONT Thomasville Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the Tifton
2 CONT Cemetery. -- The physician was the son of the late Dr. T. H. Andrews, one
2 CONT of the first physicians in Cuthbert, and the former Miss Addie Jordan of
2 CONT Eatonton. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he
2 CONT received his BS degree, and Emory University, where he received his MD.
2 CONT -- For nine years he practiced in Thomasville, and then enrolled at
2 CONT Polytechnic Institute in New York, where he specialized in eye, ear, nose,
2 CONT and throat work. Returning to Thomasville, he practiced there until 1937
2 CONT when he moved to Tifton. -- Dr. Andrews was on the medical staffs at
2 CONT Archbold Hospital in Thomasville and Tift County Hospital here. He also
2 CONT was a member of the AKK Medical Fraternity and the First Baptist Church
2 CONT here. -- Survivors include his wife; two children, A. A. Andrews, Jr.,
2 CONT Norcross, and Mrs. John A. Stathos, Albany; two brothers, Hull Andrews,
2 CONT Carnegie, and P.C. Andrews, Thomasville; seven sisters, Mrs. J. H. Smith,

2 CONT (Microcopy #266, Roll #511), he was captured near Knoxville, TN on 3
2 CONT DEC 1863 [in the battle of the Wilderness] and forwarded through the
2 CONT federal military prison system to Rock Island Barracks, Illinois where he
2 CONT died of smallpox. He is buried in Grave #270, South of Prison Barracks.

2 CONT send it out on Sunday morning. But, you know they didn't deliver the thing
2 CONT until Monday morning and Norman was so put out when he heard about it,
2 CONT cause he's paid and everything. There was some flowers in the church and
2 CONT they just fixed up Lidie B. a little bouquet from that to hold."

2 CONT Japanese in the Battle of Savo Island 9 Aug 1942. "The Quincy's last
2 CONT assignment was the support of Marine landings on Guadalcanal. After
2 CONT bombardment of enemy positions on 7 Aug the cruiser was assigned to
2 CONT cover the northern entrance into the Sound off Guadalcanal with sister
2 CONT ships Astoria and Vincennes. Unware of the presence of enemy ships,
2 CONT Quincy was caught unprepared for action. Of the three American cruisers
2 CONT and one Australian heavy cruiser lost that early Sunday morning of 9
2 CONT August 1942, Quincy absorbed the most damage and had the highest
2 CONT casualty list with 370 killed. Illuminated by enemy searchlights, Quincy
2 CONT managed to get off two 8-inch salvos but confusion on the bridge and
2 CONT fear of firing on Allied ships brought the order to cease  fire. Soon
2 CONT thereafter Quincy was hit on the bridge with great loss of life and
2 CONT consequent loss of direction for the battle. Enemy gunfire accuracy was
2 CONT aided by fires on the American vessel and a torpedo on the port side
2 CONT caused flooding that contributed to the cruiser's doom. At 0235 Quincy
2 CONT capsized to port and became the first of many American and Japanese
2 CONT warhips to sink beneath the waves of "Ironbottom Bay." " from photocopy

2 CONT the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor? Well, he wasn't at Pearl Harbor but

2 CONT settled in Montgomery County on the Oconee River near Dublin. Some few
2 CONT years later, Archibald, which was my great-grandfather, moved on
2 CONT westward and stopped at the Ocmulgee River five miles below
2 CONT Hawkinsville. He lived and raised his family and about the year 1840,
2 CONT died, as was handed  down to me by my father, he was more than a
2 CONT hundred years old when he died. He raised only one son, Archibald Jr., and
2 CONT two daughters, their names I do not know. His brother Aaron continued
2 CONT living his days in Montgomery County. he raised a large family, from

2 CONT land for farming during her lifetime, then to his children. Mentions 3
2 CONT sons (apparently all under the age of 21 at that date), the oldest is
2 CONT named James. Mentions his brothers and sisters. Names John W. Werttens
2 CONT (sp?) his executor.
1 NOTE !If he married Sarah on 11 Nov 1857 and died in 1860, chances are that at
2 CONT least some of the sons are from a previous wife -- perhaps Antoinette?
