1 NOTE !Misc: "The pioneer ancestor of the Stanaland family in Georgia was Buz
1 CONT (Boaz) Stanaland, Mr. Stanaland's great-grandfather, who was born, it is
1 CONT thought in South Carolina. Migrating to Georgia in early life, Buz
1 CONT Stanaland lived for awhile in Bulloch county. Later he came to Southwest
1 CONT Georgia, making the removal with teams of his own, bringing his cattle
1 CONT and household goods with him and settling on the old country road, ten
1 CONT miles north of Thomasville. Purchasing a tract of timbered land, he
1 CONT erected a log cabin...He was the first to raise stock in this section of the
1 CONT state...until his death in the seventy-fifth year of his age. His wife,
1 CONT whose maiden name was Dolly Hollingsworth, survived him, being
1 CONT upwards of eighty years old at the time of her death. They, with one son

1 CONT settler, in 1836, of the 660th District of Lowndes County, now known as
1 CONT the Morven District of Brooks County. His son, Samuel James Harrell was
1 CONT my grandfather. My mother, Amelia, was the fourth child of Samuel
1 CONT James Harrell. She married Thomas Calvin Stanaland (not M.T. Stanaland
1 CONT as the History of Brooks County states). My maternal grandmother was
1 CONT Laura Jane Albritton, a daughter of George W. and Jane (Allen) Albritton.
1 CONT George W. was the son of Elder Mathew Albritton, pastor of the Columbia
1 CONT church, Bethel and Bethlehem churches. (See History of Brooks County,
1 CONT 1858-1948-Huxford).
1 CONT My father's people were also Primitive Baptist folks. My great-great
1 CONT grandfather, Booz (Boaz) had a son, John Obed, who married Susana Milton
1 CONT of Thomasville, March 22, 1827. They were married by Henry Milton, MG.
1 CONT The inscription on their tombstones states they were deacon for 54
1 CONT years and deaconess for 48 years, respectively, in the Primitive Baptist
1 CONT Church.
1 CONT R. T. Stanaland was a member of the old Elam Primitive Baptist Church,
1 CONT which was once located near or at Grooverville, and left that church to
1 CONT become a Charter member of the Gooverville Baptist Church.
1 CONT My grandfather's wife, Martha Ann Bryan (maiden name -- of Monticello,
1 CONT Fla.) Stanaland, was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church and also my
1 CONT great aunt, Julia Stanaland Beasley. I understand the records of the
1 CONT Antoich Church were lost, but the Union Church was the "Mother" church
1 CONT according to Brooks County history.
1 CONT At present Thomas County is in the process of getting out a history and
1 CONT I am hoping to get some information together for our family.
1 CONT My father, Thomas Calvin Stanaland, and his sisters, Mrs. Henry Wilson,
