Confederate Service Records from the National Archives 2 CONT include an entry indicating his name was on a register of prisoners of 2 CONT war at Fort 2 CONT Delaware, Delaware. The entry indicates that Harvey C. Hearn was received 2 CONT from Waynesboro (probably Waynesboro, Virginia, since the 45th Virginia 2 CONT Infantry fought exclusively in and around the Shenandoah Valley during its 2 CONT time of service.). The Confederate Service Records go on to say that 2 CONT Harvey 2 CONT C. Hearn died of an influenza of the lungs (also listed as pneumonia) on 2 CONT April 24, 1865, and that his grave is/was located on the Jersey Shore. 2 CONT 2 CONT In May 1863, Harvey Hearn married Nancy C. Linkous, in Bland County, Va. 2 CONT The Bland County marriage records (from microfilm) record his age at the 2 CONT time of 2 CONT his second marriage as being 40 years. This would place his birth in or 2 CONT around 1823, rather than 1827. 2 CONT 2 CONT One child, Ellen, was born from his second marriage. Hearn, son of Levi Griffin and Aura White Hearn, was born May 2 CONT 16, 1841. He was reared on a farm, and when he became old enough, he 2 CONT enlisted in the first company of Confederate Volunteers from Mercer 2 CONT County. He fought with Company G. in the 24th Regiment of Vounteers at 2 CONT First Manassas, Seven Pines, Cold Harbor, Dreweys Bluff and Chafins Farm. 2 CONT He served four years and was never wounded. He engaged in farming at the 2 CONT close of the war. He bought a good farm five miles east of the county 2 CONT seat of Mercer County, West Virginia. He always lived well, and by hard 2 CONT labor and good judgement he accumulated a considerable amount of property. 2 CONT 2 CONT He began a general mercantile business near Hatcher in 1868. He married 2 CONT Martha Catherine Bruce, July 13, 1870. He bought and had other busines at 2 CONT Ingleside and Basin Springs, Wyoming County, West Virginia. 2 CONT 2 CONT In 1889 he opened up a mercantile business at Princeton. He was a member 2 CONT of Oakvale Grocery Company, and a member of the Board of Education of East 2 CONT River District. Hearn, the sixth child of Andrew and Martha B. Hearn, was 2 CONT deeded ninety acres, more or less of land. When he married Lillie Hale of 2 CONT Narrows, Virginia, June 30, 1914, neighbors and relatives helped build a 2 CONT house. he was a lumber inspector for Ritter Lumber Company at Maben, West 2 CONT Virginia. He went to work for the Virginian Railroad in Princeton, West 2 CONT Virginia. He bought a Model T Ford to ride to work. He passed away 2 CONT December 3, 1959. All the children attended Johnston School.
