1 NOTE I grew up on a forty-acre ranch in southwest Colorado, 8 miles northeast of the
2 CONT town of Cortez.  I worked for neighboring ranchers and farmers until I
2 CONT graduated from highschool.

2 CONT highschool, I joined the Marine Corps, where I served four years.  In my early
2 CONT adult life, I worked for the Bureau Of Reclamation as a surveyor on the project
2 CONT which became the McPhee Reservoir, west of the town of Dolores, Colorado.  After
2 CONT that project I worked a while in lumber yards, oil fields and in a  sawmill.
2 CONT  In 1988 I moved my family to
2 CONT Blanchard, Oklahoma where I
2 CONT became a paralegal.

1 NOTE At this point, the only information I have found about Daniel Conner is
2 CONT in the 1840 Census of Washington County, Prairie Township, Arkansas.  In the
2 CONT household is one male between the age of 50 and 60, 2 males between the ages of
2 CONT 15 and 20, and one male between the ages of 10 and 15.  There were no females
2 CONT in the home.
1 NOTE August 4, 1995:  In the 1830 Census of Washington County, Arkansas, on Page
2 CONT three, Daniel appears.  There are five males in the home; one over 40 and under
2 CONT 50, one over 10 but under 15, two over 5 but under 10, and one under 5.  There
2 CONT are two females in the home; one over 40 but under 50, and one over 10 but
2 CONT under 15.
1 NOTE At page 11 of the same Census is a John Conner, #1567 in OTHER data.

2 CONT Richard shows as a 59 year old stock raiser, born in February, 1841.  His
2 CONT father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in Kentucky.

2 CONT inscription, "R. Swan, Died July 15, 1897, Age 63 years.  The other side of the
2 CONT monument bore the inscription, "Sallie Swan, Born Dec. 14, 1880, Died
2 CONT July 4, 1896."

1 NOTE Olivett attended a one-room school at the old Swan place through the seventh
2 CONT grade.  The teacher boarded with her family, and they all rode to school on
2 CONT horseback or in a two-wheel cart.  During her thirteenth year she and Lucy Ford
2 CONT (Mrs. Clint Johnson, Sr.), also thirteen, stayed in a big house in Lordsburg
2 CONT all alone to attend school.  She then went on to Prep. School as well as two
2 CONT years of college at N.M.A.&M.  Upon completion of her education, she went to
2 CONT Columbus to teach for two years making $80.00 per month.  Columbus was a rough
2 CONT town in those days and there was a regiment of negro soldiers stationed there.
2 CONT This was in 1920 a few years after Pancho Villa's raid.  Mr. Herb McGrath, the
2 CONT sheriff at Silver City, gave her a six-shooter to keep while she was living at
2 CONT Columbus.  She subsequently taught school at old Tyrone, McDonald's School and
2 CONT White Signal.

1 NOTE Notes from a paper we found in the Silver City Museum, written about the Grant
2 CONT County area:
1 NOTE      Mr. and Mrs Fred Prevost live[d] at White Signal, eighteen miles south of
2 CONT Silver City on the Lordsburg Highway.  Mr. Prevost moved there from Kingston
2 CONT with his mother, stepfather, and brother in 1909 when he was eleven years old.
2 CONT They homesteaded 160 acres and also had the post office until 1936 and a
2 CONT grocery store until 1965.  In 1909 the families were isolated on their
2 CONT homesteads in the Burro mountains, and after moving to White Signal Mr. Prevost
2 CONT wore a gun all the time because of bandits and renegades.  His father was
2 CONT Alphonse Prevost, who came from France to Canada and later to the United
2 CONT States. Mr. Prevost herded goats in the Black Range when he was a young boy.
2 CONT There was only a mule trail through the mountains at that time.  Kingston had a
2 CONT population of about 6,000 people then.  There was a brick factory there, and
2 CONT most of the houses and buildings were made of brick.

2 CONT They live very close to each other.  Because Anthony B. Conner named one of his
2 CONT children Isaac, I have added Isaac S. Conner as a child of Daniel Conner until
2 CONT further research proves otherwise.
1 NOTE I also found an Isaac S. Conner in the Oklahoma Census, #1251 in OTHER data,
2 CONT who was born in 1852 in Arkansas.  This Isaac would have been 36 years old when
2 CONT the other Isaac was born.  It is likely the other Isaac is our relative.
