Thomas Wait and his brothers Gamaliel and Richard emigrated to Boston from England in 1633. The majority of over 1000 descendants listed in this GED are from Thomas. Spelling of the name was indiscriminant, ranging from Wait, to Waite, to Wayte, and others. This GED includes a stellar cast of characters including: Rev. Edward Wightman, the last person to be burned at the stake for heresy in England (1612); Gilbert Updike who once owned Coney Island; Millard Fillmore, 13th President of the US who failed to heed his wife's advice (he signed the Fugitive Slave Act, a major bad move and an end to an otherwise undistinguished political career); Rev. Samuel Wait, founder of Wake Forest University; Morrison Remick Waite, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court; and others who mainly distinguished themselves for their incredible ability to propagate.
