1 NOTE Blanche was an artist and lived in Long Beach, California and was rather

2 CONT a little eccentric in her ways.  She could play the entire score of a play 
2 CONT she had seen in a theater from memory.  She lived at 901 East First Street 
2 CONT in Long Beach, CA at the time of her death.  Her artistic abilities were 
2 CONT on display at the Laguna Beach, CA Art Museum.

2 CONT Hall but am not certain.  He was born and lived in Mansfield, Connecticut 
2 CONT and at the time of the Revolutionary War he had a family, a wife and four 
2 CONT children.  My father was born in 1774 and he was four years old when his 
2 CONT father was drafted into the army and after awhile was taken prisoner by 
2 CONT the Brittish [sic] and put in a prison ship, I think it was called the 
2 CONT Jersey, in New York Harbour.  There he sufferd [sic] untold agonies.  Our 
2 CONT people in having them, released and had food nearby so that they could get 
2 CONT something to eat, but Grandfather could not stand eating and fell down

2 CONT first military company chartered in the Western Hemisphere.  Four of its 
2 CONT members included US Presidents, James Monroe, Chester Alan Arthur, Calvin 
2 CONT Coolidge and John F. Kennedy.  He was Clerk of the Company in 1655.  The 
2 CONT Company is third oldest in the world behind the Swiss Guard and the 
2 CONT Honourable Artillery Company of London.

2 CONT "He enlisted as private in Company G, 30th Regiment of Indiana Volunteer 
2 CONT Infantry on August 25, 1861; was mustered in at Fort Wayne, Indiana, 
2 CONT September 24th, the same year; honorably discharged May 23, 1863, at 
2 CONT Louisville, Kentucky, by reason of gun shot wound received in left thigh, 
2 CONT the ball fracturing the bone.  Gangrene set in and ate the flesh of 
2 CONT exposing the cords and arteries.  He was confined in several hospitals 
2 CONT located in Nashville, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky.  He exhibited 
2 CONT such christian fortitude and patience in his sufferings that he won the 
2 CONT love and respect of a noted army surgeon whose close attention to his case 
2 CONT was the means of saving his life.  He was taken prisinor at Murfresboro, 
2 CONT Tennessee, December 31, 1862, by Wheeler's Confederates.  He was 
2 CONT skirmishes, the most important of which were: Battle of Murfresboro, 
2 CONT Shiloh, Siege of Corinth, also in skirmishes near Nashville.

2 CONT commencement of the Revolution, the only two pieces of cannon then in the 
2 CONT town, except those which may have been brought by the British troops.  He 
2 CONT was also one of the number (and, so far as we know, has left but three 
2 CONT survivors) who on the 16th of December 1773 proceeded to the tea ships, 
2 CONT (which were at the wharf now called Liverpool Wharf, then Griffin's) and

2 CONT "In 1770, a new prime minister, Lord North, believing it unwise for 
2 CONT England to hamper the sale of its own wares in outside markets, secured 
2 CONT the repeal of most of the Townshend duties. At the request of King George 
2 CONT III the duty on tea was retained, in order to assert the right of England 
2 CONT to tax the colonies. The American merchants accepted this compromise, and 
2 CONT the agitation in the colonies soon died down. The remaining duty was 
2 CONT evaded by smuggling: the odious tax was not paid on about nine tenths of 
2 CONT the tea imported after 1770.

2 CONT Then, in 1773, Parliament passed another act that set all the elements of 
2 CONT discord in motion. This measure allowed the British East India Company to 
2 CONT ship tea to the colonies without paying any of the import duties collected 
2 CONT in England. The company, near the brink of bankruptcy, had on hand an 
2 CONT immense quantity of unsold tea. It could now sell this tea more cheaply in 
2 CONT the colonies than local merchants, who had to pay high duties, could sell 
2 CONT the tea that they imported. The company was quite willing to pay the 
2 CONT Townshend tax of threepence a pound when its tea was unloaded in America.

2 CONT In the colonies this cheap tea was greeted as a bribe offered to the 
2 CONT people for their consent to a British tax. The merchants everywhere were 
2 CONT alarmed. If the East India Company could receive a monopoly for the sale 
2 CONT of one article, it might receive other privileges and thus deprive the 
2 CONT local merchants of most of the colonial trade. In New York and 
2 CONT Philadelphia the company's ships were not allowed to land. Meanwhile, in 
2 CONT Boston, a group of citizens disguised as Indians tossed L15,000 worth of 
2 CONT the offensive tea into the harbor. This incident, afterward known as the 
2 CONT Boston Tea Party, brought about the greatest pre-Revolutionary War crisis, 
2 CONT for it was the first act of resistance to end in the destruction of a 
2 CONT large amount of private property. Since the East India Company was

2 CONT company began the manufacture of window glass in November, 1793.  Samuel

2 CONT specualtion in which he lost all the accumulations of many years of 
2 CONT untiring industry.  He became a member of the Lodge of St. Andrew in 1778, 
2 CONT and was the first treasurer of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic 
2 CONT Association.  He was considered a valuable and influential member of this 
2 CONT association, but withdrew from it about the time of the failure of the 
2 CONT glass company.  He was a man of superior intelligence, kindness of heart,
