S. Peggy 2 CONT Ann Springs, a favorite recreation facility in the 1920's to 1940's, located 2 CONT near Hardin, Kentucky was named for Mrs. Peggy Ann Pace who married Andrew 2 CONT James Cope. It was a place where families, clubs, parties of young people and 2 CONT church groups could spend a day in relaxation and fun. Many picnics and social 2 CONT gatherings were held there. The main attraction was a large swimming pool, 2 CONT fed by a spring. There was a nearby wooded area for picnic tables, refreshment 2 CONT stand, swings and a place to change into a swim suit. The pool was built and 2 CONT maintained by Phillip and Lee Redden who lived on the property. It was a very 2 CONT popular spot for people from Marshall County and adjoining counties until 2 CONT Kentucky Lake opened in the 1940's. Then they went to the lake and Peggy Ann 2 CONT was forgotten and only the ruins of the pool and channeled water filled 2 CONT ponds remain. Richard & Isabella were given land 2 CONT grant in 1620 across from Jamestown Fort. Their plantation was known as Pace's 2 CONT Paines. Richard paid transportation from England for six people, 5 men and l 2 CONT woman and obtained 50 acres for each person. He served the colony in various 2 CONT capacities and received another 100 acres. "Paces Paines was 600 acres on the 2 CONT bluff across the James River from Jamestown. 1 NOTE !Richard took into his home, Indian boy Chanco, perhaps as playmate for son, 2 CONT George, and he was taught with him in the Christian Religion. This Indian boy 2 CONT told Richard of the planned massacre to Youngstown. Richard secured his 2 CONT household and canoed across the river to warn colonists and many of the 2 CONT Jamestown settlers were saved. 1 NOTE !Members of the John Pace Line for 3 generations could sign their full name 2 CONT and George Pace, the next generation, could only sign his initials, G.P. 1 NOTE !George died, his late 30's, Raid against Chickahominy Indians. 1 NOTE !Paces Paines was originally established by Richard Pace, his wife, Isabella 2 CONT (Smith) assisted by their friend William Perry. All three had come over from 2 CONT Stepney Parish, London, arriving four years after the founding of Jamestown, 2 CONT the only settlement in the new country at that time. Perry was sent back to England 2 CONT about a month after the massacre and Richard charged him with the responibility 2 CONT of securing "indentured" workers (5 men and 1 woman). Richard now had 400-acre 2 CONT grant, plus another 100 acres granted to Isabella. Isabella also acquired 2 CONT another 100 acres by assignment at Court in Jamestown on Jan. 20, 1620 from 2 CONT Richard Richards and Richard Dolman. This brought Paces Paines to 600 acres. 2 CONT Work was proceeding well and the plantation growing when the "1622" masacure 2 CONT took place. The calendar in use in this era should be explained. It ran from 2 CONT March 25th to March 25th (not January first to January first.) After March 2 CONT 25th, however, the next year would agree with ours up to January first next 2 CONT (but would continue until March 25th.) The massacre took place, as reported in 2 CONT contemprary records, on March 22, 1622 (O.T).
