He and his brother John Mills Pagan 2 CONT may have traveled to Mississippi with the Joyners. George bought land 2 CONT near Mashulaville in the western part of Noxubee County where he farmed 2 CONT and reared his family. Somewhere between 1870 and 1900 George Bonder 2 CONT Pagan and Lorinda Love moved to Texas where Lorinda died. After she died, 2 CONT George moved back to Mississippi and made his home with his daughter, 2 CONT Charlotte Pagan Coleman, and her family, and died there. For some unknown 2 CONT reason George Bonder Pagan never contacted his family in South Carolina 2 CONT after he left. He became the lost member of the family. The family in 2 CONT S.C. erroneously concluded that George Bonder Pagan was the George Pagan 2 CONT who died in the Battle of the Alamo. On August 10, 1900 he filed an 2 CONT application for a pension for having served in the Confederate Army. On 2 CONT that application he stated that he had been in Mississippi for sixty 2 CONT years, that he enlisted in the fall of 1862 and served three years under 2 CONT Col. Harrison and Capt. Sterling Harper of the 6th Mississippi Cavalry. 2 CONT After the Confederate surrender, he was released from service at Selma, 2 CONT Alabama. Before his death he 2 CONT was a cotton buyer in Chester, S.C.. James Pagan served as Sheriff of 2 CONT Chester County from 1845-1849. The Pagan home on Lancaster Street was 2 CONT called the "Oakland." Major Pagan attained the rank of Major in the 2 CONT Confederate Army during the Civil War....Major Pagan was six feet tall 2 CONT until he was thirty yrs old, and after that he grew two additional inches. 2 CONT He was raw-boned in figure, with deep-set blue eyes, and was a decided 2 CONT blonde. His hair, which remained thick and wavy all his life, became not 2 CONT just gray but cotton white.....He lost his eyesight to cataracts about ten 2 CONT yrs before his death, then fell on a rough path and broke his hip and 2 CONT walked on crutches the rest of his life. Blind and crippled, but always 2 CONT cheerful, he never lost interest in people, politics, and the cotton 2 CONT market. His wife read aloud to him.
