He claimed that she was a prostitute, and supposedly caught her with a customer by the name of Richard Brantley. Mr. Brantley denied this assertion, but Mr. Harvey J. Middlebrooks testifed that he had frequently seen Mrs. Yates working at a house of ill repute.

Needham & Mary Stokes10/12/188309/15/1881FewaxThey were married in Orange County. He accused her of adultery, and produced a witness by the name of Mr. John Owens. Mr. Owens admitted that he and several other men had extramarital affairs with Mrs. Stokes. Mr. Stokes subsequently remarried 12/16/1885 to Josephine Jernigan.
