Will of Abiell Shailer of Bolton, Connecticut,
dated 20 December, 1742


I, Abiell Shailer of Bolton, in the County of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament: I give to my wife Hannah 1-3 part of my moveable estate, and one cow over and above sd. third part, to be to her and her heirs and assigns forever. Also, I give her the use of my 50 acres of land I now live on, with the buildings and appurtenances, so long as she continues my widow. And in case she should see cause to marry again, then I will her œ10 money, to be paid her by my executor. I give to my grandson Abraham Hills œ20, to be paid him as hereafter provided. I give to my daughter Jemima Dart œ30. I give to my daughter Mary Grover œ30. I give to my daughter Sarah Fitch no more than what I have already given her. I give to my son Ephraim Shailer 5 shillings with what I have already given him. I give to my son Reuben 5 shillings besides what I have given him. I give unto my daughter Hannah œ26 to be paid her as hereafter provided. I give to my daughter Miriam œ30, to be paid her as hereafter provided. I give to my daughter Thankfull œ30. I give to my son Timothy my 30 acres lying in what is called Allin's farm, and also my 10-acre division called the 6th division. I give to my son Ebenezer my 50 acres I live on, with the orchard, buildings and appurtenances, after my wife's marriage or death. My will further is, that all my just debts be paid out of my moveables, and the remainder of the moveables, besides my wife's third part, be paid and distributed to pay the above named legacies so far as they will extend. And the remainder of sd. legacies I do hereby order my son Ebenezer to pay.
I hereby order my friends, Mr. John Bissell and Sergt. Francis Smith, both of Bolton, executors.

Page 58 -- 15 May, 1745: Timothy Shailer, a minor, age 16 years, son of Abiell Shailer of Bolton, chose Thomas Pitkin of Bolton to be his guardian. Recog., œ500.

Page 14 (Vol. XV) 3 June, 1746:
An inventory of sd. estate was exhibited in Court by John Bissell, executor. Accepted. Also, the sd. executor informs this Court that he suspects the estate insolvent, and prays that commissioners may be appointed to adjust the claims of the creditors: Whereupon this Court appoint Ichabod Welles, William Cole and Isaac Griswold, of Bolton, commissioners.
